I have attempted on three different computers and currently my Tom Tom is not working at all no maps just a picture of a tomtom on the screen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled tomtom home from multiple computers. I did not do a backup since i didn't know about it until it was too late. I have tried doing the reset by holding power key for 15+ seconds and get nothing but a black screen with things I know nothing about. Here is one of the errors I know keep getting, there were different ones prior: ERROR: HomeBase/IO: Error writing file: F:antitheftw.bmp @ .portablecfile.cpp(1947) 0000045D in .portablecfile.cpp:1947 Stack: 0. chrome://tthome/content/ui/bindings/commit.js2 error(textOrException); 1. chrome://tthome/content/ui/bindings/ttwizard.xml:1061 this._commitFailed(i, commitPage); 2. chrome://tthome/content/logic/util.js:79 return func.apply(obj, arguments); 3. chrome://tthome/content/logic/dllUtils.js:77 this._errorCallback(e); 4. chrome://tthome/content/logic/dllUtils.js:69 this._errorFatal(error); Time: Thu, 21 Apr 2011 03:35:46 GMT like this 0 2 comments Oldest first Newest first Best voted Najib You can see here how much reputation Najib has received from other members. I recently attempted to update it, plugging it into my PC and running TomTom Home 2.9. When it reached the point of trying to install the TomTom application it failed with the message "Error Writing to File". I found an item on the TomTom online help suggesting backing up the device and then formatting the device. The instructions said untick "Quick Format". If I do this then the format operations fails with a windows message "Unable to complete format". If instead I enable quick format, the format completes but when I update the device it fails to https://en.discussions.tomtom.com/xl-xxl-home-23/error-when-trying-to-do-updates-19127 install the TomTom Application with the same "Error writing to file" message. I have repeated this process a couple of times with exactly the same results, though sometimes with different files shown when the fault occurs. Suggestions please. I've also tried chkdsk X: /r which similarly comes up with no errors. like this 0 Quote Reply dhn You can see here how much reputation dhn has received from other members. After about 5 or so attempts it made it all the way through, I was then able to restore the map from my backup, and install the rest of the
