Now do you know why I maybe did not have permission the first time? @ChinnuR –rambossa Nov 6 '13 at 20:34 Which one is worked for you? –Krish R Nov 6 '13 at 20:35 sudo -i nano /usr/local/php5/lib/php.ini –rambossa Nov 6 '13 at 20:35 Some system files aren't available for just anyone (or any program) to change or delete. For such cases you need to act as the root user, or superuser. Usually this means typing "sudo" before the command and it will ask you for a password. This will allow you to do something as the superuser. –Krish R Nov 6 '13 at 20:37 | show 1 more comment up vote 1 down vote Try this : sudo chmod 644 /usr/local/php5/lib/php.ini It will give you the rights to write on the php.ini share|improve this answer answered Nov 6 '13 at 20:26 Tib 1,55611227 unfortunately i still get the same error after doing this –rambossa Nov 6 '13 at 20:32 did you restart apache? –Tib Nov 6 '13 at 21:08

Cheers Swanny Congratulations for joining the Linux and Ubuntu communities. * Files located under /etc almost always are protected such that only root can and should edit them. Use sudo {editor} {filename} to gain the elevated access permissions from the account you setup the system with. Other accounts should not work. * I'd point out that 10.04 is an older release and you really should install 12.04 if you are running a desktop since 10.04 will not be supported with patches in a few months (April 2013). * If you are running the server edition, 10.04 has 5 yrs of support - no hurry to update, but I'd still encourage that you load 12.04 which will be supported until 2017.
