Error Writing To File Pid Nbf
Domino server startup nsd; Error writing to process file pid.nbf; domino server startup; launch; 702 fp1; 702fp1; 655 fp3 Technote (FAQ) Question The following error displays on the Lotus Domino server console when starting the Domino server: Error writing to process file pid.nbf. Answer This issue has been fixed in Domino 6.5.6, 7.0.2 Fix Pack 1 (FP1) and 8.0. Excerpt from the Lotus Domino Release 6.5.6 MR and 7.0.2 FP1 fix lists (available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus): SPR# TSAO6RM8FZ - NSD now makes a separate copy of pid.nbf and reads that; also only reads the file once instead of four times. This regression was introduced in 6.5.5. Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino. When the Domino server starts it launches an NSD -info command to gather some system configuration information. NSD reads pid.nbf, which can cause file contention with the Domino server. Obtaining this fix is the preferred method of resolving this issue. In the interim, there are two workarounds: Workaround #1 If you have NSD update Version 2382, you can add the following line to nsd.ini in the data directory: USEPIDNBF=1 This will cause NSD to use pid.nbf exclusively for initialization, reducing the time that the file is open. Workaround #2 Disable the launching of NSD -info at server startup. This is done by adding the following line to the notes.ini: DISABLE_SAVENSDCONFIG=1 Related information Document information More support for: Lotus End of Support Products Lotus Domino Server Software version: 6.5.5 Operating system(s): Windows Reference #: 1246979 Modified date: 2007-07-17 Site availability Site assistance Contact and feedback Need support? the PID.NBF file? Answer The PID.NBF file is the Process ID table of all Notes/Domino processes. For the lifetime of a Notes client/server, each process start or shutdown causes the process ID (PID) to be added to or removed from the PID.NBF. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21246979 In a Win32 environment, NSD uses the pid.nbf to determine, in case of a crash, if the failing process is a Notes/Domino process. The PID.NBF file is also used by Domino in a partitioned server environment. The file allows the processes http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21229311 associated with each partitioned server to be identified. The PID.NBF is located in the Domino\Data directory. The PID.NBF file can be renamed or deleted. The file is recreated the next time the Domino server is restarted. If the PID.NBF file is deleted while the Domino server is running, NSD will be unable to determine the Notes processes to attach to until the server is restarted (when the new PID.NBF is created). Everything works fine. NLHOOK.EXE [0760:0002-08A4] Error writing to process file pid.nbf, (other applications may be inappropriately accessing this file) We have created a Windows 7 image with Notes 8.5.3, and our other error writing to apps, all service packed, patched and sysprepd. We used the guidance in the link below to pre-populate the server name for the users. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21112835. In the Notes.ini, C:\ProgramData\Lotus\Notes\Data I added a line:- ConfigFile=C:\ProgramData\Lotus\Notes\Data\setup.txt The setup.txt looks like this:- Domino.Name=my-domino-server/servers/my-org Domino.Port=TCPIP Domino.Server=1 AdditionalServices=0 Permissions are fine throught the directory structure. The only other issue I've found that relates to this was someone who was also working with Windows Images but the thread went cold. http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd85forum.nsf/dba3ca7e515d55ff85256a0700727b35/b11c2753864b95f7852579e9005575fb?OpenDocument. RE: Domino Server fails to start tonty (MIS) (OP) 30 Aug 07 06:36 Sorted, no thanks to the completely misleading error messages.Turns out the notes.ini was corrupt and had replaced the Directory=pathname with weird charaters.
