We have to close Visual Studio completely (not just closing the soulution) and delete this file manually. Of course this happens not all the time, there is enough disk space, the path is correct and we have sufficient privileges... Has anyone seen this behaviour before? Desktop Development > C++ Standards, Extensions, and Interop Question 0 Sign in to vote Hello, I have this problem: When i open a specific project, i build it first time and it goes ok, after i modify it, build again - and it gives me LINK : fatal error LNK1201: error writing to program database 'c:\..\***.pdb'; check for insufficient disk space, invalid path, or insufficient privilege The only solution to avoid this is to close VS, and to re-open the project, in this way i am able to build it one time again (after first build, close again, ect), and it is really annoying. This problem seems to be https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/intel-visual-fortran-compiler-for-windows/topic/362147 not related to a particular project (VS on other machines compile it correctly), nienther to this particular machine (other similar projects don't give this problem), but it happens everytime on this machine with this project. I am using VS 2003, launched with Administrator rights. Any help will be appreciated, Thanks Wednesday, September 23, 2009 1:45 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Add: I've tryed to restart VS, restart PC, delete https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/b0271379-3ab1-4e08-af9e-d4f51fe8de79/lnk1201-error-at-every-build?forum=vclanguage the .pdb file. Also have you verified that the directory that the PDB file is being written is not read only and that you have write permissions to it? Wednesday, September 23, 2009 2:08 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Hi Simon, i am not out of disk space, and i have permissions to write in debug folder (i've also tryed to change the database file to "C:\programname.pdb" but with no result), and i think it couldn't be problem of database path, cos as i said similar projects placed in the neighbour folder works fine. I have browsed around many forums and they all provide an answer that does not fit to the actual problem. LINK : fatal error LNK1201: error writing to program database 'd:\Coding\Flyff\Projects\GUI System 20110721\Debug\GUI System 20110721.pdb'; check for insufficient disk space, invalid path, or insufficient privilege I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with Visual Studio 2003 .NET (service pack VS7.1sp1-KB918007-X86.exe). What I error writing to have tried already: * Run in compatible mode for several other operativesystems and service packs. * Set project folders write permission to full. * Run Visual Studio as Administrator. * Edited Debug Information Format to several other formats. To reproduce this bug, you must have Windows 7 x64 (probably Ultimate). Visual Studio 2003 (with VS7.1sp1-KB918007-X86.exe update). I have over 150 GB space so it has nothing to do with that. Visual Studio simple locks the PDB file when debugging, and after debug it cannot unlock it. You must also run a code piece that is running for a few seconds, such as this: int APIENTRY WinMain( HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow ) { Sleep( 5000 ); MessageBox( NULL, "Test", "", 0 ); return 0; } Hope anyone have a solution, as I'm currently required to use this environment configuration.
