I have to restart VS2010 everytime I make change to the code because apparently it locks the pdb files. 1>LINK : fatal error LNK1201: error http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23551345/pdb-file-check-for-insufficient-disk-space-invalid-path-or-insufficient-privi writing to program database 'C:\code\MyProject\Debug\MyProject.pdb'; check for insufficient disk space, invalid path, or insufficient privilege Even if I clean the project it doens't delete this file. I have tried the solution proposed here by Toni but it didn't work for me either. When add path to pre-build like he has suggested I get the following error: 1>C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(103,5): error MSB3073: The command "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\freepdb MyProject 1>C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(103,5): error MSB3073: :VCEnd" exited with code 9009. c++ visual-studio-2010 debugging msbuild share|improve this question edited Sep 23 '14 at 2:27 pnuts 33.8k63769 asked May 8 '14 at 19:56 zar 2,49832353 Sounds like the debug service is not closing or releasing the pdb file. May need to install it again. –Captain Obvlious May 8 '14 at 20:00 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted The culprit was deleaker that I had installed to detect memory leak and it looks like it was holding up the debugger/pdb files. After uninstalling my problem is fixed. share|improve this answer edited May 9 '14

I have browsed around many forums and they all provide an answer that does not fit to the actual problem. LINK : error writing to fatal error LNK1201: error writing to program database 'd:\Coding\Flyff\Projects\GUI System 20110721\Debug\GUI System 20110721.pdb'; check for insufficient disk space, invalid path, or insufficient privilege I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with Visual Studio 2003 .NET (service pack VS7.1sp1-KB918007-X86.exe). What I have tried already: * Run in compatible mode for several other operativesystems and service packs. * Set project folders write permission to full. * Run Visual Studio as Administrator. * Edited Debug Information Format to several other formats. To reproduce this bug, you must have Windows 7 x64 (probably Ultimate). Visual Studio 2003 (with VS7.1sp1-KB918007-X86.exe update). I have over 150 GB space so it has nothing to do with that. Visual Studio simple locks the PDB file when debugging, and after debug it cannot unlock it. You must also run a code piece that is running for a few seconds, such as this: int APIENTRY WinMain( HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow ) { Sleep( 5000 ); MessageBox( NULL, "Test", "", 0 ); return 0; } Hope anyone have a solution, as I'm currently required to use this environment confi
