I've got a new Sony http://blog.fuelip.com/2010/01/nsis-error-error-writing-temporary-file/ Vaio with Win 7 64-bit. I have made a D-partition where I've moved all my personal files to (pics, documents & stuff). Now, when I try to install VLC Player I get a NSIS Error: "Error writing temporary file. Make sure your error writing temp folder is valid." What is this, and how do I fix it? A similar thing happens with Windows Update. It finds a new update for me, but after I've installed the update it finds the same update again and wants to install it. I must have installed the same update 20 times by now! And when I download a new Vaio update I extract it, but the installationprogress never starts. Don't know if I've moved some important file from the registry or something? error writing temporary I use CCleaner, maybe that's got something to do with it.. But on that link it says that I should try cleaning the browser's cache or "update your anti-virus software (if installed) and download the installer again", but that doesn't d
Windows 7, it'll probably be this folder by default: %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalTemp Just copy and paste it into Start - Run. Took sometime (and dedication) to figure this out, but nothing else worked. Tried changing TEMP and TMP variables and checked permissions etc. Wasn't about to reinstall Windows. Had plenty of installers using the NSIS (Nullsoft) system install, just this one was giving me grief (WinPcap_4_1_1.exe). Happy installing! Just wondering if this temporary fix is working for those effected? Reply jeroen says: April 22, 2015 at 7:12 am YES it works just fine, I use so many cleaners and removers, the temp redirection seems to get damaged with file shredders like adv. system care pro 8.1 uses, for instance, deletes rock star games social club without removing the game software attached to it, witch normally is mandatory to get rid of it, gives you this error when you try to reinstall it later. So thanks for the fix. Reply Great says: May 11, 2010 at 1:44 am Well… not really :-/ I can't execute any installer file on my C: I have to copy/paste them on my second hard drive (D:) to be able to execute them. My variables and permissions are as they should be. Reply philip says: May 11, 2010 at 11:58 pm That's quite unusual! But thanks for sharing your solution! Reply J says: August 27, 2010 at 5:54 am Yea this didn't work. I've tried this solution and getting rid of read only and sys attribute through cmd. Reply maury says: September 23, 2010 at 1:57 pm I figured it out! In WIN 7 I noticed there wasnt a temp file in my user settings so I just created a new folder called Temp and it worked !! Check your admin account . You will see all the folders Downloads, etc. Create a Temp file under your user name or under guest or admin, wherever you want. Copy the EXE file into that temp file, double click it and voila it works. Reply philip says: September 24, 2010 at 8:33 am Good stuff! Hopefully your post helps someone maury!
