Computer Printers Repair Error 388 on the HP Officejet 7130 Repair Error 388 on the HP Officejet 7130 By Aubrey Kerr eHow Contributor Aubrey Kerr Follow Pin Share Tweet Share Email Save The HP Officejet 7130 is an all-in-one printer with faxing capabilities. You can receive an error code 388 on your Officejet 7130 when you try to send a fax. HP technical support states this is an error resulting from too much noise on your telephone line, which interrupts your ability to send a fax. The noise may be on your end or on the other person's end. If the problem persists, the tech people at the TweakHomePC website have some suggestions for isolating line noise for modems, but the same tips can apply for fax machines. Wait five or ten minutes and try your fax again. According to HP technical support, the 388 error may go away on its own after some time has passed. Move to the next step if you still can't send a fax. Insert a new phone cord if you're using an old cord for your Officejet 7130. Older phone cords and phone cords that are too long can create line noise from the fax to the jack outlet. Move to the next step if you still can't send a fax. Turn off all other electrical devices to check if the line noise is coming from something electrical in your home or office. According to the TweakHomePC website, if you're able to send the fax with all other electrical devices turned off, the noise is coming from another electrical device. Turn the electrical devices in your home or office back on one at a time. Try sending a fax after each new addition. In this way, you can isolate the offending electrical device. Move the identified electrical device to a new location, or turn it off when you send a fax. Move to the next step if you still can't send a fax. Call your telephone provider if none of the above steps has corrected the problem. If you are still getting an error 388, this means that the noise is further down the phone line rather than coming from your home or office. Request a test on the line to check if the telephone provider should increase the signal ratio. References HP Custom
