It might mean the line is bad. So the thing to try first is, to unplug the line from the Canon, and plug it into a voice phone handset, then lift the handset, listen for a dial tone, dial a number, see if the call goes through and you can be heard at the other end. After that test, make sure that the phone cord goes back in the 'L' jack or the 'LINE' jack of the phone, not the phone-handset-logo or 'EXT' or 'EXTENSION' jack, which won't work. And if it still won't work, what sort of phone service do you have? digital/VoIP/MagicJack, or landline/POTS ?How old is your Canon device? I tested the phone line with a phone and got a dial tone, replaced the phone line with a new cord, powered down and powered up and it still will not send. I do have a digital line,"ATT u-verse voice line" fairly new so I'll try the phone company. Thanks for your excellent help. Expert: Russell H. replied4 years ago. Hi Russell,You helped me with the Canon MX410 printer/fax/scanner question the other day. I contacted ATT and they say the digital line is working just fine. I still cannot send a fax and probably cannot receive one either.
