because I have a customer who is interested in Sharing their free/busy information with another external organization. So what is Federated Calendar Sharing? And how is it distinct from Internet Calendar sharing? “Federated Calendar Sharing enables authenticated access to users' calendar data, and it is available only between Online and/or on-premises Exchange organizations who have established a Federation Trust with the no free busy information could be retrieved office 365 Microsoft Federation Gateway, which acts as a broker between Federated organizations. In the case of both Federated Calendar Sharing and Internet Calendar Sharing, the on-premises or Online Exchange administrator can control with what level of granularity users are able to share calendar data (free/busy only, free/busy with titles/locations, or full calendar details). Administrators can define a Sharing Policy and apply that to the entire org, certain divisions, or even individual users. Within the scope of what the administrator has allowed, a user has the option to publish their data with even less granularity.” - The Exchange Team Blog This blog article in particular was the most helpful from what I could find on configuring Federated Calendar sharing: http://www.expta.com/2011/07/how-to-configure-exchange-2010-sp1.html This article is referenced repeatedly as being the how-to guide to setup Federated sharing between an Office 365 tenant and an on-premise Exchange 2010 SP1 organization: http://www.stevieg.org/2010/08/federation-onpremise-outlooklive/ After following all the guides, I kept getting an error message “The attendee's server couldn't be found” (Error code: 5039). Searching for this error resulted in multiple sources suggesting a change to the TargetSharingEpr value. For example: http://www.expta.com/2011/08/exchange-federated-freebusy-d

My Exchange 2007 server is hosted outside my network and I use proxy connection in my Outlook clients to connect to the Exchange server. My problem is that when I go create a new appointment in Outlook and go the Scheduling Assistant, the free/busy information for http://forums.msexchange.org/No_free%2Fbusy_information_could_not_be_retrieved/m_1800560553/tm.htm other people and rooms does not show. Instead I see 2 error messages 'No information. No free/busy information could be retrieved.' and 'Your server location could not be determined. Contact your administrator.' When I use Outlook Web Access I can see the free/busy information no problem. Can anyone help solve this issue? If using Outlook 2003, the Exchange server needs a Public Folder store to store the Free/Busy information or it needs to be enabled to store Free/Busy info. Outlook 2007 or later can use web protocols instead to get FRee/Busy info. _____________________________Peter Hutchison MCP Exchange Administrator University of Huddersfield (in reply to leons1982) Post #: 2 RE: No free/busy information could not be retrieved - 10.Apr.2012 12:41:11 PM leons1982 Posts: 4 Joined: 10.Apr.2012 Status: offline I am using a mix of Outlook 2007

For a modern "under the hood", see this article. As organizations move to make use of cloud based services, like Exchange Online or Outlook Live, it’s pretty important to be able to integrate both the on-premises service and the cloud service so that end-users can continue to work as normal. That’s especially important with a service like Outlook Live, aimed at Education institutions, where typically could not be staff, faculty and some students will continue to be hosted on-premise and the majority of students will be hosted in the cloud. A seamless experience makes life easier for users and thus easier for IT… So, with Outlook Live and Exchange 2010 On-Premises there is a pretty good opportunity to get Exchange working seamlessly between both systems. I’ll be covering a unified login in a further article (once I’ve re-written the code we use in-house into a re-distributable form). But for now, I’m focusing on the user experience with free/busy and calendar sharing. One of the areas users might expect to “just work” is free/busy and calendar sharing between on-premise and cloud. The options are there, it looks like it tries to do it.. But the end user just gets unfriendly error messages and “permission denied” errors. To get this up and running in Exchange 2010 SP1 is actually now pretty simple. Although SP1 allows self-signed certificates for Federation, you cannot use these with Outlook Live federation, and you'll need to perform an extra step. However it's still fairly straightforward… Pre-requisites First things first, we need a few things in-place and working already before we can get going. The main pre-req is Autodiscover, but I won’t cover how to set this up, as it's is cov
