From: Thomas Lloyd - 2011-12-22 13:57:57 Hi List, I have installed and have been using Gammu for about a week not specifically the smsd part of Gammu 1.30.0 on Ubuntu Server 11.10. I have a USB 3G modem that is working okay, but is not 100%. I have problems when I ask Gammu to perform a hard reset and the modem is no longer usable. Symptoms are that when the /dev/ttyUSB devices are added to the system /dev/ttyUSB2 gammu read sms which gammu uses seems to have been locked and is added as USB3 instead. At this point I get an error DEVICEWRITEERROR. Solution, I have to call my own USB reset program that causes all the devices on USB to reset (Not ideal but works for me) before doing this I have to stop the smsd service and then start after the USB modem has reset and been added back onto the system. This is being done using cron every ten minutes as the modem seems to have problems randomly from time to time. Is the hard reset issue described fixed in the latest release of Gammu, if it is then I would be interested to try it out. Also a system for exception handling would be very useful. So if Gammu detects an error, you can run a script or take action based on that error. For example: gammu-smsd[13506]: Error getting SMS status: Error writing to the device. (DEVICEWRITEERROR[11]) On this exception I could try a hard reset of the device. etc etc. This would be a welcome addition for me, saving me from resetting the modem every ten minutes. You may need to adjust bitrate to communicate to the module, so try to initiate direct communication using as example screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 and see what value fits at best.
