While svchost.exe comes with Windows, which is why DEP applies to it when "windows and services only" is selected, there is nothing preventing third-party (non-Windows) services from leveraging the SVCHOST mechanism. In other words, the box may be Windows, but not necessarily its contents.To hopefully reassure you a little, just because something is being flagged by DEP doesn't necessarily mean there's malware involved. Bad coding practices can produce similar effects which also trigger DEP warnings. Then again, it could be malware... hard to tell without more information.The first thing to do is to work out which service is involved. On a command prompt, issue the TASKLIST SVC command and try to match the process ID (PID) to the one being reported as triggering a DEP warning. You may need to do that before dismissing the DEP warning box, because the process may be terminated.It gets trickier if the service in question shares a SVCHOST instance with one or more other services.
