Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement AtomicDave Thread Starter Joined: Jul 31, 2009 Messages: 4 I am having an issue which started off affecting four laptops in our domain, and has now affected one of the desktop units as well. Within a couple of minutes of logging on the Data Execution Prevention window pops about the "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services". It seems that something is killing off the svchost.exe process which is responsible for Windows time etc. as after this message has been displayed all the services which occur under that process have stopped, some of which restart, other's cannot be restarted giving the message "Error 5: Access is Denied", this is the case even if the user account has administrative rights. Having searched the machines using MBAM and Symantec Endpoint Protection, it doesn't appear to be malware related. The two solutions I have tried from here and here have had no effect at all Until today, only the laptops in the network were having the same problems, they all started having issues at about the same time and all have the same symptoms, additionally one of the desktops has faulted with the issue. Something somewhere seems to happen on boot-up, because if the services are started manually (some such as the Server service, refuse to start), then they stay active as long as the machine is switched on. To add further confusion, I took my laptop home and connected to my Wireless router, I still got the Data Execution Prevention message about Generic Host Process for Win32 Services, however none of the services stopped working and appear to function as normal.
