It could be that the current version of Chrome isn't compatible with XP - that is an expired OS. If you can find an older version, from a year ago or so, it might l
Wed, 04/13/2016 - 19:34 As posted about last month, Google Chrome has today dropped support for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Mac OS http://johnhaller.com/blog/2016-04-13--google-chrome-50-drops-support-for-windows-xp-vista-today X releases 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8. New installations from the Chrome installer http://superuser.com/questions/443876/error-installing-google-chrome-on-windows-xp-on-virtualbox download will not work on machines with those operating systems. Existing users will see a message that they will no longer receive updates because their operating system is unsupportted.Error and Warning MessagesIf you attempt to install Google Chrome on Windows XP or Vista, the Chrome installer will download, google chrome run, install the Google Updater service and then show this error message:Existing users of Google Chrome on now-unsupported operating systems will see the following warning message:Upgrade Your Operating System or Switch BrowsersEnd users of Chrome running one of the versions of Windows or Mac OS X that is now unsupported should stop using their installed copy of Google Chrome and google chrome installation decide which option they would like to take. The first option is to upgrade to a supported operating system. For Windows users, that's Windows 7 or later. For Mac users, that's Mac OS X 10.9 or later. This could require an outlay of funds for the new operating system as well as for any necessary hardware upgrades like additional RAM. If feasible, users of these operating systems should upgrade regardless of whether they will continue using Google Chrome to ensure their systems stay secure. The second option is to migrate to a browser that will continue to work on your system. I tried installing Google Chrome on it, and the error I get is: Google Update installation failed with error 0x80040890 It is genuine Windows with SP3*. I also tried using VMware player, but it has the same problem. When the same Windows is installed on a real machine, there is no problem. Any ideas what might be the cause? EDIT: My apology, the version I downloaded from Microsoft seems to be without service packs, I didn't notice it right away. That is the problem probably. windows-xp google-chrome virtualbox vmware-player share|improve this question edited Jul 2 '12 at 9:19 asked Jul 2 '12 at 8:44 Ognjen 2741411 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Firstly try downloading the setup again, if that din't help then possibly, the reason could be that, the XP VM is Running in Audit Mode. To fix this issue you need to modify your Windows Registry: Click on Start, and then click Run. Type in regedit and click OK. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\State. Right-click Registry Key and choose Modify. Delete value in the field and click OK. Hopefully this should fix the problem. Edit: As you edited the question and said that you don't have SP3, firstly update to SP3, possibly via Windows Update. share|improve this answer edited Jul 2 '12 at 9:27 answered Jul 2 '12 at 9:07 Akshat Mittal 1,77121442 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Try http://ninite.com/ download an install for chrome and run that.
