> Windows Communication Foundation, Serialization, and Networking Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi all. Please help. I have been tweaking the following config section with no success: < system.net > < defaultProxy useDefaultCredentials = "true "> < proxy autoDetect = "True "/> defaultProxy > system.net > Exception: System.ServiceModel.ProtocolException Message: The remote server returned an unexpected response: (502) Proxy Error ( The host was not found. ). for employees to access the Internet, sometimes you may get "Proxy Error" when you try to access a site. Would you start blaming the proxy server right away? Shouldn't. Most of the time, the message in the browser tells you the reason. If you don't want to know what that means, call the helpdesk. Here is an example. Type in https://whatever.where-ever.com as the address in your browser. What do you get? Similar to the following screenshot? Right, it tells you "502 Proxy Error. The host was not found (11001)". Why? Because this website doesn't exist. https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/4aac76f7-71ca-4105-ab3a-f33740821576/502-proxy-error-the-host-was-not-found-?forum=wcf The server that hosts such website cannot be found. If you have proxy settings in your browser, the proxy server can always tell something, either for you or for the support guys on the other end of the phone. If you use your home PC, maybe via a router or a modem, and you want to do the same test, then everything https://woodaway.wordpress.com/2010/12/02/not-proxy-fault/ is on you, the browser will tell you all possible reason (like the following) and you need to find out by yourself. This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including: Internet connectivity has been lost. The website is temporarily unavailable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain. If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.
