(4 points) A: furthering this issue after using disk utility it seems to have solved the problem.I seemed to of solved my own problem and wasted a bit of time writing this stuff, just panicing I guess.Any way its here for future

I have run a disk utility and there were masses of permission problems, repaired these and am now repairing a verification issue.The OSX I am running currently is 10.4.11 the problem OSX is 10.5.8.Going to reboot and see if it has solved the case of the disapearing dvd drive. Using your usb plug for the optical drive initialization error as an external drive seems to be a problem. The computer works with the optical drive as an external drive but the application DVD player is unable to initialize it therefore it will not play anything in the drive. Mechanically the drive works. Nothing gets stuck etc. Rebooting and using a different usb port makes no difference. Error is- A valid DVD drive could not be found. Error -70012 So, how do you a valid dvd get the DVD application to recognize the media that's in the drive? Thanks Peter SOLVED- The MAC DVD player option needed to be change from looking at an Internal optical drive to a External optical drive. The problem and fix is outlined in article at cnet. FakeSMC is an opensource smc emulator original developed by netkas in 2009. A new branch is maintained by Project OS X. Previous OSX 86 installations used DSMOS hacks, It is the only absolutely mandatory kernel extension in a Hackintosh, and is required for booting the system. Why this error occur?
