There are generally only two ways to resolve this problem. 1) Change the way you are connecting, 2)Start the server you are trying to connect to. Most commonly this error occurs in RAD Studio because you are trying to connect to a different InterBase server than you expect. This is due to RAD Studio being configured to use the instance of InterBase it installed. You can read more about this here. As noted there, the most obvious solution is to this issue is to remove the InterBase and ib_protcol environment variable overrides and restart RAD Studio. Another solution is to manually specify the instance you wish to connect to. This will override the ib_protocol environment variable. To manually specify the instance you wish to connect to include it as part of the server name, For example, to connect to the default single instance install of InterBase on the same computer, provide a server name of localhost/gds_db. To connect to the InterBase instance that RAD Studio installs when it finds an instance of gds_db, provide a server name of localhost/rad_xe3. If you need to start the InterBase Server, first select InterBase Server Manager from the InterBase group in the start menu: Next, click the Start button: If you try to start InterBase Developer edition and it fails, it may mean you have another instance of InterBase developer edition using the same license. For more information on this issue please see the RAD Studio Release Notes. InterBase Developer edition refuses new connections 48 hours after starting, so if the server has been running for more than 48 hours you need to restart it. If you run InterBase Server Manager and find the server is already running, yet you still get the error "Unavailable Database", here are other things to check: Do you have an INTERBASE environment variable pointing to a different server or an invalid location? Are you using the Multi-instance featur

Abstract: Check permissions when connecting to Interbase through a web connection. Question: Why am I getting the error "database unavailable" when connecting to Interbase via IIS? Answer: Go into the http://support.embarcadero.com/jp/article/42804 services window on the machine your apps are running on and make sure that all services such as Interbase server, IIS Admin and web Publishing and Interbase Server have the "Allow service to interact with desktop" option checked. This is accessed by right clicking the service and going to properties | Log On. Note: This may not be the same http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/27428 as "Unavailable Database" which is generally caused by not having your Interbase server running. Join them; it only takes a interbase error minute: Sign up EIBInterBaseError 'unavailable database' when trying to create a Firebird database in Delphi up vote 2 down vote favorite I'm trying to create a Firebird database during runtime. The procedure that I'm using to do this is this one: procedure CreateDatabase(DBName: String); var IBDatabase1: TIBDatabase; begin IBDatabase1 := TIBDatabase.Create(Self); try IBDatabase1.DatabaseName := ChangeFileExt(DBName, '.fdb'); IBDatabase1.Params.Add('USER ''SYSDBA'''); IBDatabase1.Params.Add('PASSWORD ''masterkey'''); IBDatabase1.Params.Add('PAGE_SIZE interbase error unavailable 4096'); IBDatabase1.Params.Add('DEFAULT CHARACTER SET WIN1252'); IBDatabase1.CreateDatabase; finally IBDatabase1.Free; end; end; I've achieved this without problems in any little project that I create to teste this function. However, if I try to run this code in the same machine, same Delphi, same everything, except that it is a different (and quite big) project, I get the following error on the IBDatabase1.CreateDatabase line: First chance exception at $7579B9BC. Exception class EIBInterBaseError with message 'unavailable database'. Process xxx.exe (4144) Anybody has any clues about this one? Maybe some way to debug this properly? Thanks in advance. EDIT It seems to be something in my project file. I've managed to generate a new one and the problem is gone, but I'm afraid of being bitten by this in the future. What could possibilly cause this? delphi firebird dbexpress interbase share|improve this question edited Mar 16 '12 at 13:42 asked Mar 16 '12 at 13:10 haole 1,02511733 What changed in your project file?
