His old PC had 4 gig HD, 156k ram. His "new" pc - has a different but same size HD (4 gig), 190k RAM, different motherboard/CPU (pent 2 / 233mhz), newly installed WIN 98 updated with IE 6. The lowdisk space/memory problem came back. There is PLENTY of disk space. Windows is managing the memory as recommended. With the problem coming back, the https://forums.techguy.org/threads/outlook-express-out-of-mem-low-disk-space.283022/ only thing I can think of is a bigger hard drive? (CPU won't recognize a 40 gig) OR perhaps dumping IE 6 and trying to find and load IE 5 ? Is very frustrating. There are NO viruses. Suggestions? Thanks - BD BioDave, Oct 10, 2004 #1 Sponsor WhitPhil Gone but never forgotten Trusted Advisor Joined: Oct 4, 2000 Messages: 8,684 Is this the complete message?? "Outlook Express could not open the folder. Possible causes are: Low disk space. Low memory" Do a find for *.DBX and ensure that the files are NOT set to be readonly. If these are ok, it could be a corrupted Outbox. Do the following to rename the Outbox.dbx file: Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders. In the Named box, type Outbox.dbx. In the Look in box, click your primary hard disk (usually drive C), and then click Find Now. Right-click the Outbox.dbx file that appears, and then click Rename. Type Outbox.old, and then click OK. Restart Outlook Express which will rebuild the Outbox.dbx file. ***In both cases, ensure that Outlook is not running. due to low disk space? Here is a solution It is a bitter truth that insufficient memory space does not allow you to store data in the system. Have you ever http://outlookexpressrepair.blogspot.com/2010/12/facing-errors-in-outlook-express-due-to.html been stuck in a crisis situation wherein you have been unable to use Outlook Express e-mail application to access received e-mails, even though it has been configured to access the mails. E-mails that have been http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/169340-need-help-with-outlook-express/ received remain inaccessible. Reason for this sluggish and abrupt behavior is, corruption of Outlook Express DBX files. Need help with Outlook Express Started by 39Magnolia57 , Aug 30 2007 06:50 PM Please log in to reply #1 39Magnolia57 Posted 30 August 2007 - 06:50 PM 39Magnolia57 Member Member 36 posts Some recent problems have developed with Outlook Express on my computer. 1) When I first turn the computer on (it gets turned off every night) and log into OE for messages, it takes up to 15 - 20 minutes just to get 5 or 6 messages. If I close it and come back later anytime before turning the computer off for the night, they come in just fine. We have a high speed cable connection. I also have McAfee Security Center which was preinstalled on my computer. 2) Yesterday this was the first message I got when I logged on and the messages finally all come through, "Message could not be displayed "Outlook Express encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again." This note was displayed in all my messages. My computer has a 130 gig hard drive with well over 100 gig free. And it also has 2 gig of RAM. I have noticed that if I log out of OE and log back in, I can get the messages. But if I leave OE on, eventually all my messages will have that same error again. I keep the message folders pretty well cleaned out and compact the folders fairly regularly. I've done the cleanup of the disk and defragged. All this made no difference. In addition to McAfee - the computer also has Windows Defender, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster, and Ad-Aware SE. Am I paranoid?? Yep - Ever since the WinFixer was somehow installed on another computer I had in 2005. You folks helped me with that problem. Anyway, these programs are updated and scans are run frequently. Could McAfee be the problem? Any advice or suggestions
