Microcode update error on bootup Started by Mr.Data , Jun 07 2011 04:35 PM Please log in to reply 2 replies to this topic #1 Mr.Data Mr.Data Members 12 microcode update error posts OFFLINE Local time:10:13 PM Posted 07 June 2011 - 04:35 PM Microcode update error on bootup Hi everyone, I have a Hp Compaq dc5100mt its working fine but the BIOS post screen comes up with this error on every start up and you have to press F1 to continue every time; "1801-Microcode update error. Missing or invalid processor microcode update." (The processor fitted is not the original one but the system still works fine once you continue on from the post screen) I downloaded the microcode update. The problem is that the microcode updater (see the following images) asks for a destination disk to drive A:, But I have no drive A:, "Floppy" Can you help ?? Someome else may have another idea though... Top 5 things that never get done:1. Back to top #3 Mr.Data Mr.Data Topic Starter Members 12 posts

Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement Alex Ethridge Thread Starter Joined: Apr 10, 2000 Messages: 8,790 I'm not having any luck with this one at the HP/Compaq forums. Compaq Presario 5000 (exact model number 5SPXE1) I have updated the processor from Pentium 4, 1500-MHz to Pentium 4, 2400-MHz. I now receive a pause on POST requiring me to press F1 to continue: 1801 Microcode Patch Error. Missing or invalid Processor Microcode Patch. Please contact Compaq Computer Corporation for a new ROM BIOS to support the new processor stepping. See your sentence before the last. Courtneyc, Jan 10, 2009 #2 Alex Ethridge Thread Starter Joined: Apr 10, 2000 Messages: 8,790 Your rude, condescending remarks are not appreciated. Alex Ethridge, Jan 10, 2009 #3 Alex Ethridge Thread Starter Joined: Apr 10, 2000 Messages: 8,790 In case anyone else is working to upgrade an older system and runs into this problem, here's what solved it for me. I tried several BIOS updates before I finally got one that actually removed the error message and pause. As an aside, I can understand Compaq's putting in a pause to let the user know he/she needs a BIOS update; but, I can't understand why the pause has to be indefinite, waiting for user input. It should time out after a few seconds. I'll be sure I tell them this at the next board meeting. Alex Ethridge, Jan 11, 2009 #4 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies.
