I got http://techin.oureverydaylife.com/upgrade-microcode-processor-bios-compaq-mini-desktop-8343.html everything up and running eventually. However, I was unable to access the BIOS after installing my Windows 7 OS. Initially I used it to set CD Rom priority above my 128GB microcode update Crucial M4 SSD in order to load windows. After loading, whenever I tried to access the BIOS via the delete key, it would just keep restarting over and over, almost like an infinite loop until I managed to miss the delete key where it would load up windows. I needed to access the BIOS in order to get it to recognize my microcode update error backup 1TB HDD which I plugged in after windows was installed. So, I read that hitting the clear CMOS button would reset the BIOS, which could help if it was failing. I hit clear CMOS, the computer restarted, and then I got a 0E error on my Dr. Debug on the motherboard. According to the manual, this means that it could not find the microcode. Hitting the clear CMOS again, it will give an A3 error, which means IDE Enable. If I hit f12, delete, or f2, it changes to 0E. Check my most recent post for revisions/updates if you'd like. Thank you in advance for your time on helping me fix this issue. How to Update ASUS Motherboard BIOS How Do I Update the BIOS on My Computer? How to Use BIOS to Unlock the AMD Phenom How to Reset the BIOS Password for My Dell Vostro How to Set BIOS & Video RAM on a HP Pavilion How to Disable BIOS Shadowing on a Gateway Microcode is the method of using small, simple chunks of programming code using digital logic to operate a computer processor rather than building in hardware on the chip to complete the same tasks. Macrocode then builds on the microcode to complete more complicated processes. Updating the motherboard's BIOS is the usual method for also updating the microcode processor because it is contained in the BIOS. However, occasionally computer companies also put out updates specific to the microcode processor. Updating Compaq BIOS Step 1Find the current BIOS version by restarting your computer. Press "F1" or "F10" at the first screen to enter the BIOS. Write down the BIOS revision number. Press "F10" to exit the BIOS and allow your computer to continue booting up. Step 2Go to HP's software download page (see Resources). HP and Compaq merged, so updates are now handled through HP. Choose your operating system, click "Next," then click on "BIOS." If your model number isn't listed, there's no update to your BIOS. If it is, continue to the next step. Step 3Click on the download link for your model and follow the on-screen instructions to update your BIOS, which includes the microcode processor. Upgrading the Microcode Processor Only Step 1Check the BIOS number from the previous section to see if it belongs to the 786D family of BIOS for HP Compaq Business Desktop computers. If it does, continue to the next step. Step 2Go to the download page for the 786D BIOS microcode processor update (see Resources). Step 3Click on the download link and follow the on-screen instructions to update the microcode processor for Compaq computers running 786D BIOS. Tip If a 251 or CMOS Checksum error occurs after installing the BIOS update in Section 1, take the following action. Restart the computer and enter the BIOS screen as in step 1. Press "F5" to load the default BIOS configuration. Select "Yes" using the arrow keys, and press "Enter." Exit the BIOS by pressing "F10."
