Is the app local or client connected? However IBM have made several changes to the way data conversion is performed, especially from Java (and changed their minds about it as well) - so that the exact (defaulted) method (and location) of conversion can be hard to pin down as it is both version and fixpack level sensitive. On Unix - you may need to install some operating system code pages. These are listed in the installation pre-requisites for MQ v7.
