Click on the Start menu, choose Run, type msconfig and click OK 2. In the System Configuration tool, click on the Services tab 3. Check the box labeled Hide all Microsoft services 4. Click the Disable All button to disable all non-Microsoft services 5. In the System Configuration tool, click on the General tab 6. Click the Selective startup radio button 7. Uncheck the box labeled Load startup items 8. Click OK to accept all changes in the System Configuration tool 9. Reboot for the changes to take effect 10. Delete all files in %temp% 11. Install the .NET Fx 3.5 SP1 12. In case of failure: a. Download this tool for collecting the .NET installation log: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=12493 b. Run this tool c. Upload on your skydrive or send me the %temp% directory (a-mibrin@microsoft.com). Note: please attach the link of this post in the mail. || Michele Brina || Developer Support Engineer || http://blogs.msdn.com/itasupport Monday, October 17, 2011 2:18 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote It is still not installing after following your steps. I've run the tool and uploaded the files in the Temp folder here. (By the way, dotnetfx35langpack_x86zh-CHT.exe is located in %temp%\dotnetfx3530729.01\1033\dotnetfx35\x86 instead of %temp%. Also, some of the files can't be uploaded because they are 0 KB.)Matt Monday, October 17, 2011 3:54 PM

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Fails to Install ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ April 18, 2008 by Heath Stewart (MSFT) // 12 https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/83d5a5c9-ca53-4346-ae50-791f40dba754/microsoft-net-framework-20a-2-error-installation-failed-for-component-microsoft-net-framework?forum=netfxsetup Comments 0 0 0 A lot of customers have recently started seeing the following errors, all stating in various ways that Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 failed to install. You may also see this when attempting to install other updates on top of .NET 2.0 SP1. The error you will see depends on how you are applying updates. If you are installing .NET 2.0 SP1 or other https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/heaths/2008/04/18/microsoft-net-framework-2-0-service-pack-1-fails-to-install/ updates on top of .NET 2.0 RTM by installing the package directly, you may see the following dialog. If you click on the Error Log hyperlink, the error log simply states the following. [04/17/08,17:08:27] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 1603 If you are attempting to install updates using Windows Update or Microsoft Update, you may see a dialog similar to the following. If you view the history of the updates you've applied and click on the error icon, the following dialog denotes the same generic error. To determine the root cause, you need to look in your %TEMP% directory for a file named dd_NET_Framework20_Setup*.txt, where * will be 4 random alphanumeric characters. Find the most recent log if there are multiple logs by sorting by Date Modified. The problem described here can be found by searching for "Resolving Patch source" in the log file. How to workaround this issue If you found the text "Resolving Patch source" in the log file described in the problem description above, you can download the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Registration Correction Tool attached as clwireg.zip and extract the
.NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 1603 Posted March 28th, 2008 by Henry Huey .NET | Windows | Windows Server 2003 I http://www.imiscommunity.com/net_3_5_framework_installation_failed_for_component_microsoft_net_framework_2_0a_msi_returned_error_code_1603 ran into this when installing the 3.5 Framework on two Windows 2003 SP2 servers. .NET 3.5 installed with no problems on one, but failed on the other. The http://www.networksteve.com/forum/topic.php/Can't_install_.net_framework_3.5_SP1_&_2.0_SP2_on_my_Windows_Ser/?TopicId=36819&Posts=4 full error from the log was: [03/28/08,17:08:09] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 1603 [03/28/08,17:08:46] net framework WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a is not installed. The server where the install succeeded showed this in Add/Remove Programs: NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 ...and the failing server showed this: NET Framework 2.0 NET Framework 3.0 ...so it looked like it was just a matter of net framework 2.0a installing .NET 2.0 SP1. Unfortunately, it wasn't that simple, since its install threw a 1603 error as well. After trying some combinations of uninstalls and reinstalls, I ended up using this utility from Aaron Stebner to remove all the .NET Framework installations from the server: http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip Then I installed NET Framework 2.0 SP1 and NET Framework 3.0 SP1. With those in place, 3.5 finally installed without incident. From the description of 2.0 SP1 on microsoft.com/downloads: In addition, this release provides security improvements, and prerequisite feature support for .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1, and .NET Framework 3.5. so I follow this post "When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error code "1603" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100)" to uninstall all the .net products, reboot and re-install again. So I tried the following steps: 1. Verify the .net installed (using verification tool fromhttp://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx) and it showed I still had .net 1.1 SP1 which was successfully verified. 2. Install .net framework 3.5 SP1 full package directly but fail: [11/10/12,16:31:34] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 1603 [11/10/12,16:31:48] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a is not installed. 3. Then I install .net 2.0 SP2 but fail as well: [11/10/12,16:43:05] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 1603 [11/10/12,16:43:17] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a is not installed. 4. I tried to use Add/remove Windows components to install .net 2.0. It shows that I have .net 2.0 (the box is checked) but the size is 0.0MB. If I tried to install using windows server 2003 setup disc, it said installation is successful. So I go back to Add/remove Windows components, same screen appeared. If I uncheck the box, it said I have File Server Management, Storage Manager for SANs, File Server Resource Manager and DFS Management requires .net 2.0 and ask if I need to uninstall them as well. As I am not sure about the consequence, so I cancel. I have searched many forums but still no workable solution for my case and also posted the case here (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxsetup/thread/4bf7668f-3e7c-4f1b-a0f4-a702f84fdc8f/) I don't know if these steps could help me now: 1. Use sfc.exe /scannow 2. Use .net repair tool from Microsoft website (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135) 3. Uncheck the .net 2.0 from Add/Remove Windows Component and remove the 4 other components as well. Then check again to install .net 2.0. But the problem is I don't know where to get back 4 other components and if other applications are affected. Could anyone help me on that? Where can I collect and upload logs? Thank you very much.
