quicktime 7.7.3 via SCCM to around 100 computers that have 7.70.80.34 installed on them. I'm getting the often-seen "A newer version of quicktime is already installed" error message. I've tried almost everything I've found on the internet to no avail. What I tried: Using Orca, I created a new MSI and removed the NOT BNEWERPRODUCTISINSTALLED line in Launch Conditions I set "PreventDowngrade to 0 in InstallExecutiveSequence Tried on a test machine - got the same error. Ok, so I thought I'd try running a script to remove quicktime first. Made the following script and ran it, removing quicktime: strComputer = "." Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _ & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2") Set colSoftware = objWMIService.ExecQuery _ ("Select * from Win32_Product Where Name like '%QuickTime%'") For Each objSoftware in colSoftware objSoftware.Uninstall() Next That uninstalled the old version of quicktime. Ran the install again - same issue. After a bit more searching, some people recommended removing quicktime from the registry. So I made the following batch file and ran it: reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\20441E9C136328143B77B6D0BFC13093 /freg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\0C7EC0FA4E3A37D489B82B1978CEE6A9 /freg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\20441E9C136328143B77B6D0BFC13093 /freg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\0C7EC0FA4E3A37D489B82B1978CEE6A9 /f That deleted the registry values, but I'm STILL getting the same error. System Center Configuration Manager > Configuration Manager 2007 General Question 0 Sign in to vote I can get the package with my custom mst file to install if i manually run it via command line. If i then add it to SCCM for deployment, which runs under the system account it thinks it has a newer version installed. if i run it under the user context from SCCM it also thinks there is a newer version installed. Why do I get this message in SCCM:The program for advertisement "00220075" failed ("0020005D" - "Per-system unattended"). The failure description was "A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. ConfigMgr just kicks-off the command line and the error message you're getting is caused by the Quicktime installer. Monday, March 22, 2010 7:01 AM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote That's not ConfigMgr's fault. Keep in mind that the msi is executed as "local system" if you're running in admin context. It suggests an update is available for iTunes and also Quicktime (which I never use). The updater never works and just keeps going round in a loop. I tried to uninstall Quicktime, but it was not on the list of programs. So I deleted any references to Quicktime and I uninstalled iTunes. When I try to reinstall iTunes, I get a message that says "Quicktime was not found. Quicktime is required to run iTunes" When I run the install for Quicktime, I get a messag

printers, phones, Linux, Adobe Creative Suites, and plenty of other hardware and software. Hopefully some of the solutions I find throughout the workday are useful to you as well Monday, January 17, 2011 Deploying Quicktime fails with "A newer version of Quicktime is already installed" UPDATE 10/13/2011:iTunes 10.5 doesn't require Quicktime to run anymore, so hopefully this problem disappears, but if you're still having trouble this article should help. If this doesn't solve your problem you can also try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Microsoft pulled this from it's list of available downloads citing the potential for problems (so this is your warning), but MajorGeeks.com still hosts a copy and that's where the link above will take you. Download and install the utility, then run it and remove any references to Quicktime it finds. You may even find some other unneeded programs leftover that you didn't see in the Add/Remove Programs list. After removing the Quicktime entries try running your modified installer that you create using the directions below. Original Post I ran into this issue while trying to deploy iTunes using group policy. Luckily a little digging in the msi file led me to a quick fix through the use of a transform of the original msi. If you have an easier fix please share in the comments. In order to do this you'll need Orca (which you can get from here), or another MSI editor installed. This should work on a personal machine as well, but you likely don't have a Quicktime.msi file yet so you'll want 7-zip installed in this case. Here's what I did that worked for me If you don't have a Quicktime.msi file, start here. Otherwise skip to step #3 if you already have it, whether through iTunes or as a standalone 1. Download Quicktime from Apple
