Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client." One user experiencing this error message when he starts up and logs into his machine, also at seemingly random times during the day. Windows 7 Pro fully patched 64-bitOffice 2010 Pro Plus 32-bitAdobe Reader DC no default (as I think Reader has something to do with this)(Worth noting: Lync 2013 aka Skype for Business is installed on the machine) I've tried the obvious stuff:Make sure Outlook 2010 is set as the default mail clientRun a repair on Office 2010Make sure all updates have been run Then I started looking at other solutions, including setting up a different default mail service within Adobe Reader. no default mail I also saw something suggesting to disable the Reader Speed Loader at startup. There was also a recommendation to set the bitness for Office 15 in regedit to x64...tried this even though I didn't expect it would work since we're using 32-bit Office 14. I'd love to get this nuisance issue out of my user's way. Any ideas? Normally a registry file issue with this error so you may need to uninstall clean registry and preferences then reinstall. 2 Thai Pepper OP Adam Gadoury Aug 14, 2015 at 3:38 UTC Also I would try to run this "Fix It" from MS and then run a repair if you haven't already. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us
Email ClientSlipstick SystemsHome / Outlook / Outlook is Not Recognized as the Default Email Client Last reviewed on October 25, 2015 —37 Comments Applies to: Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2010 After you install Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, or Outlook 2016 and try to send mail using the File, Send by email command in other applications, Outlook may not be recognized as the default mail client. The causes include: 1. You are using Outlook 64-bit and 32-bit programs can't "see" 64-bit programs. 2. You are using Home and Business 2010 "Click to Run" (C2R) suite, which is installed in a virtual drive. Other applications can't see Outlook 2010 C2R. Note: This does not apply to Outlook 2013 or 2016. All Office 2013 and 2016 suites are click-to-run; most applications will not have problems due to this. 3. Installing the application AFTER installing Office. The fix: repair Office. Verify Outlook is set as default mail client To verify Outlook is indeed set as your default email client: Open Control Panel and search for Default Programs. Select Set Default Programs link. Choose Microsoft Outlook from the list of programs. Click "Set this program as default".
Repair Office installation If the affected program was installed after Office, try repairing the Office installation. Open Control panel, Program and Features Find and select your Office or Outlook installation Click Change Select Quick Repair then click the Repair button. (In older versions of Office, the option is called Repair.) Using Outlook 64-bit with 32-bit Applications Using 64-bit Office is not recommended unless you need large (2GB) file support in Excel or Access. There is no benefit in using Office 64 bit for "normal" users. Also, you cannot mix-and-match Office 'bitness' - you need to use all 64-bit or all 32-bit Office applications. See 64-bit editions of Office 2010 for Microsoft's recommendations. If you are using Office 2013 64 bit, check this registry key and create it if it does not exist.
