Everything works fine if compiled and run as a Windows Application. But when converted to operate as a service trying to create a form containing a TQuickRep component throws the exception. This service runs fine on many other boxes but not this one in particular. Here are some http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2579946/quickreport-throws-there-is-no-default-printer-currently-selected-exception details: Using QuickReport version 4.07 Box is a Windows Server 2008 operating system. Using Delphi 2007 Printer.Printers.Count is returning a positive value. In fact I can list out all of the printers. I have tried running the service both using Local System Account and Logged on as an Admin. delphi windows-services printing share|improve this question edited Apr 5 '10 at 18:40 Chris Thornton 12.8k32452 asked Apr 5 '10 at 17:45 M Schenkel 3,29373679 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted You can solve this problem by creating a new dword UserSelectedDefault with the value: 1 in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\SessionDefaultDevices\Session_ID Make sure you have a local printer selected. share|improve this answer edited Feb 17 '12 at 12:24 answered Feb 17 '12 at 11:23 Niek H. 4051319 I think the other answer solved the problem. But will keep this in mind. –M Schenkel Feb 17 '12 at 16:00 Having a local printer (even though there was not physically one attached) resolved issue. –M Schenkel May 24 '12 at 15:08 add a comment| up vote 5 down vote Is there a default printer set up in session 0? Be very careful when working directly with the registry. I do not take responsibility for any consequences. (end of disclaimer) The fix, which worked for me yesterday, is simple: Go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\ -If the Windows key doesn't exist, create a new key; Then check for the following entry (or create it if it is not there) Name: Device Type: Reg_SZ (String Value) Value: winspool,Ne00 <-- if there is anything else there, change it to this value. Should you be unable to save it, just make sure the user has Full (or special) access to the Windows key (by right-clicking on the key). Changed the registry value as instructed and worked perfectly. Thanks for the help. HP reps gave up after 2 1/2 hours of uninstalling/installing, etc. Reports: · Posted 4 ye
