This issue occurs in both my Ubuntu 12.04 machine and my WIn7 machine. Trillian on my windows machine connects just fine to MSN, so I dont connection error from suspect a network issue. My settings are: messenger.hotmail.com Port: 1863 Proxy type. Use environmental settings The "use HTTP method option results in it actually trying to connect, but it never does, it just says "connecting.....". I have attempted to change just about every other setting, with no luck. What could be going on? connection pidgin msn share|improve this question asked Dec 15 '14 at 0:52 Banquo 2113 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote If I were to guess, I'd say it stopped working slightly more than 6 weeks ago, when the MSN messenger network was closed down, so I don't know what Trillian is connecting to. Microsoft wants you to move to skype, which is available for ubuntu, and you should be able to log in using the same microsoft account and find all your friends still there. share|improve this answer answered Dec 15 '14 at 1:04 Sir Substance 1466 Aren't I just with the times. :/ Idon't suppose there is a way to get skype on pidgin without the skype client runnning. –Banquo Dec 15 '14 at 3:18 and very odd my trillian client still connects –Banquo Dec 15 '14 a

Submitted by GnomenKlayture on June 25, 2012 - 10:50am I've done everything I can think of... All the usual, updates to the meta pidgin, verified I can access the MSN account, but at CMD an NSLOOKUP on messenger.hotmail.com returns nothing... Seems that MS has integrated messenger with their Live Essentials thus making messenger.hotmail.com:11004 no longer connect capable. I've searched the forums for a reference and it seems I'm the first, so if anyone else has issue and a fix, please post it or the link or what should be in Account>Advanced>Server, Port and/or "HTTP Method Server" maybe? Because even using it, I get "Connection error from Notification Server. I'm not a heavy user user of the MSN messaging protocol, but from time to time I have to communicate with clients over it. ---My current Pidgin/MSN connection settings are as follow--- This are the default settings. Perhaps you are still using an outdated version of pidgin or for some reason you changed the port. Give these settings a try. -Sever: messenger.hotmail.com -Port: 1863 -HTTP Method Server: gateway.messenger.hotmail.com --I don't use the HTTP method [not checked] ---Connection as shown on CMD/NETSTAT--- baymsg1030121.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com:1863 ESTABLISHED Log in or register to post comments GnomenKlayture June 26, 2012 - 9:42am Permalink Thank You! Changing Server: to your cmd/netstat fixed it! SevenFactors, it was the gateway that was failing. After only changing the Server: messenger.hotmail.com …to… Server: baymsg1030121.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com …did it connect successfully!!! Thank you very much for your feedback! BTW, this new gateway change has helped several of my co-workers too! Living can be hazardous to your health, you may die from it. ~Phil Sergent Lo
