Solved Event ID 2042: It has been too long since this machine replicated Posted on 2011-01-14 Active Directory 1 Verified Solution 8 Comments 3,672 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-10 Hello all; I have 2 Domain ntds replication Controller servers and one Exchange 2003 server, when I inspect the Directory Service log in Event Viewer, I found the replication error logged. When I looked at it in depth, I found that the Exchange server and the DC2 is not replicated properly due to the tomb stone expired. But the replication between DC1 and Exchange is good. In this case, what should I do? 0 Question by:KANEWONG Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL ntds replication error 3 Best Solution byv_2abhis2 Hi ! Has DC2 been off the network for some time ? You could use the command "repadmin /removelingeringobjects" to remove the tombstone objects and then resume replication. Resolving this problem should be fairly easy Please follow the following Steps below. 1) Check for Event ID 2042 on the domain controllers. the Server that is throwing the event ID 2042 is a good domain controller as its rejecting replication from the Tombstone Domain Controller. The same event ID will give you the Guid of the Bad domain controller E.g : Time of last successful replication: 2003-03-10 09:07:58 Invocation ID of source: 02b2f6cc-f6bc-02b2-f00c-4603d8a82502 Name of source: a60117d7-f1ac-4e18-837b-5050082bd79d._msdcs.mydomain.local Tip: If you ping the GUID that you are getting in event ID 2042 it will resolve to the FQDN of the Bad DC 2) On both the domain controllers make sure you check for the exist

Posted in SBS2008/2011, Server 2003, Server 2008 IT Problem This article is similar to the link below, read this page and then readhttp://www.techieshelp.com/active-directory-replication-issues-after-timesync-problems/ Had this issue yesterday with a client even though the server had only been in a week or two. Its your standard issue where your domain controller has lost contact with other / another domain controller and as its been so long its passed the tombstone date so it will not replicate without intervention. In the event logs you will most likely see the errors below. Event ID 2042:It has been too long since this machine last replicated with the named source machine. The time between replications with this source has exceeded the tombstone lifetimeandEvent ID 2089:This directory partition has not been backed up since at least the following number of days. We need to get replication running across the controllers again, the quickest way is with a simple reg entry on the effected servers. IT Solution OK so lets say you have two dc`s like I did, you need to do the following to them. First we need to run regedit. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>NTDS>Parameters In the right hand details pane, create or edit the registry DWORD key that says: Allow Replication With Divergent and Corrupt Partner In the details pane, right-click Allow Replication With Divergent and Corrupt Partner, then modify it. The value yu need to enter is 1,then click OK. This allows the DC`s to replicate. Allow Replication With Divergent and Corrupt Partner Now go to active directory sites and services, browse down to Default First Site Nme > Servers>Your Server Name>NTDS Settings , right click the connectors on both servers and replicate. You should now see a message saying replication has been successful   Allen WhiteAllen is a Consultant for ITPS in the North East of England and holds the following accreditations.
