This also worked on a previous server so I know that my code at least works on another setup. I'm assuming it is permission errors given the error code 80004005 and the Operation_must_use_an_updateable_query error. –Jim Feb 25 '15 at 5:38 See here for a good list of potential causes of this error. –Keith Feb 26 '15 at 17:25 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted Make sure your IIS user has write permissions to the .mdb file and the folder containing the .mdb file (/wwwroot/db in your case based on your comment). The folder requires write permission because Access creates an .ldb file in the same folder to handle database locking. Also from here: You may also need to give read/write permission on the "Temp" folder because Jet may create temporary files in this directory. I assume they are referring to C:\Windows\Temp but I'm not positive. share|improve this answer edited Mar 13 '15 at 15:28 answered Feb 25 '15 at 16:31 Keith 11.6k84281 My IIS_IUSRS account has Modify, Read & Execute, Read, and Write permissions. It is also the same thing for the actual database file. Is there another account or additi

I did some searching and found out that the problem is because The ASP.NET worker process does not have permission to update the database. But how am I being able to insert a new record (Isn't inserting updating the database!) but not operation must use update (set a record to a different value). Your code is also pretty ugly, at the very least you should be using a parameterized query: OdbcCommand DbCommand = new OdbcCommand("UPDATE Users SET [Password] = @Password Where Name = @Name", DbConnection); var param = DbCommand.Parameters.Add("@Password", OdbcType.Text); param.Value = passWord; param = DbCommand.Parameters.Add("@Name", OdbcType.Text); param.Value = Session["LoginId"]; And I hope this isn't anything more than a toy/demo app -- storing passwords in the clear is bad. Storing passwords in access in the clear is a double bad. share|improve this answer answered J

I am attempting to test on a new Vista IIS7 on localhost an update of an access 2003 db by a test user. This all worked on my xp 2000 laptop that has been put out to pasture. I enabled IIS and set-up anODBC (standardMS Access driver) connection to the database. The first page of the suite reads in the dropdown list of countries from a table stored in the database so I know that it can both find and read the database. The error comes when attempting to register a user in a table with a test of the code below... <%@LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT"%> <% Dim conn,rsRider Set conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Conn.Open MM_AACdb_STRING Set rsRider = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") rsRider.ActiveConnection = Conn rsRider.CursorLocation = 3' adUseClient rsRider.CursorType = 3 'adOpenStatic instead of adOpenKeyset rsRider.LockType = 3 'adLockOptimistic rsRider.Source = "tblRider" rsRider.Ope
