But installation GUI doesnt give any option to modify ORACLE_HOME_NAME and ORACLE_GROUP_NAME parameter and by defasult these two parameter is set for same value for both 64 bit and 32 installation. Is this not posible through GUI i? or we can try any other method like using responce file to do it ? comment Problem ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 998 Cause The problem arose because application, Oracle client and Windows https://deryaoktay.wordpress.com/tag/error-code-998/ does not match properly as 32bit or 64 bit. I have Windows 2003 https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d4418150-948d-41b9-98ce-84a7deac0218/oracle-client-11g-r2?forum=prescriptiveguidance 64 bit, Oracle 10.2 32 bit Client and 64 bit application. After googleing around, I found that there is two versions of odbc datasource administrator: The default one, is 64 bit which we use Start menu for opening it. In order to open the 32 bit version I used: %windir%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. With oracle 11g the help of 32 bit version datasource administrator, I could see my 32 bit odbc driver listed. I extracted this rule of thumb: If your application is 32 bit, then your data source must use Oracle 32 bit client as well. Last words, beware of 3 pieces: 1- your application (which uses DSN definition), 2- Oracle client 3-data source administrator All pieces must have same oracle 11g system version, in my case it is 64 bit and therefore I installed 64 bit client. Posted by non-Microsoft Employee: Kevin Kaminski, Big Hat Group Inc. Steps to Sequence the Application: Before sequencing you may want a dummy user and system ODBC DNS in place so that the sequence can see other DSNs at the machine level. Launch setup.exe. Make sure InstantClient is selected and click Next. Change the installation folder to Q:\Oracle11.001. Ignore PATH error. Select Finish. Click Close. Most environments provide a TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files that are customized for the customers environment. It is a good idea to keep these files outside of the sequence to make them easier to update especially if you are going to use multiple sequences with the Oracle client. Make a folder off of the root of C:\ and put the files in there and set the environment variable based on the example below. TNS_ADMIN=c:\OracleTNS Create necessary ODBC DSNs. Known Issues/Limitations: Oracle is working on a client to be supported on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. A release is expected in July 2010. Approximate Sequencing Time: 30 minutes Other (Optional fields) App-V friendly copy protection scheme? N/A Additional Notes/Links: N/A Custom scripts to assist in the process: Can use pre launch script to update TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA if it is inside of the sequence. www.bighatgroup.com Changed type Aaron.ParkerMVP, Moderator Thursday, August 11, 2
