a database on an old server we inherited for a client. I'm confident I have the oracle database and listener started and working, but when trying to access sqlplus or the exp commands, I'm getting the following error: ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified I have edited the tnsnames.ora file to change the host to 127.0.0.1 rather than an external url and am able to successfully tnsping my connection, but am not getting much further. error: ora-12545: connect failed because target host or object does not exist Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. oracle share|improve this question asked Aug 6 '09 at 8:27 Simon 1 Please provide content of your sqlnet.ora file and the relevant part of your tnsnames.ora. –Christian13467 Aug 6 '09 at 8:32 sqlnet.ora is NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES ) tnsnames.ora: PNEWS10S.WORLD = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = pnews10s) ) ) –Simon Aug 6 '09 at 9:17 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 9 down vote Try setting the Oracle SID set ORACLE_SID=database name share|improve this answer answered Aug 6 '09 at 8:38 John McG 41329 1 Thanks for this - I had tried this and have just tried again, but am still getting the same result! –Simon Aug 6 '09 at 8:40 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote Dave Costa has presented you with 2 important question. Are you trying to connect via net8 or locally via extproc? Is the listener on the local machine(127.0.0.1 -- loop back device) setup for extproc connection? To use the net8 or tcp connection protocol, you need to specify user/pw@tns_alias. To connect locally via extproc you should specify the oracle_sid parameter and then connect via name/pw. I also notice the tnsalias has the .world domain appended to it, but the sqlnet.ora file doe
is incorrectly specified Posted by EL On February 11, 2013 ora-12162: tns:net service name is incorrectly specified 12c In Linux This morning I try to import an oracle_sid Oracle dump file, but I got this error message: ORA-12162: TNS:net service ora-12162: tns:net service name is incorrectly specified mac name is incorrectly specified Some people says that there's something wrong with the tnsnames.ora file. But I've checked it, and the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1237610/oracle-tns-net-service-name-is-incorrecly-specified file looks fine. After googling for a while, I found that this error message showed up because we haven't set the ORACLE_SID or maybe have the value set improperly. So, if my SID is dbnew, then I type this command on http://el.web.id/how-to-solve-ora-12162-tnsnet-service-name-is-incorrectly-specified-463 my Ubuntu: export ORACLE_SID=dbnew If you're using Windows, type this: set ORACLE_SID=dbnew Don’t forget to change the dbnew to your own SID name. Hope it helps. 🙂 Share this:FacebookTwitterGoogleMoreLinkedInRedditTumblrPinterestPrintEmail Tweet Pin It About Author EL Programmer by Day, Blogger by Night.
