Guy, we highly recommend that you visit our Guide for New Members. Cannot open mail in Outlook Express Discussion in 'Web & Email' started by toni1595, Apr 14, 2006. Recently I downloaded and installed the latest updates from Microsoft. And I was also having a problem with my AVG antivirus program so, I uninstalled it and did a reinstall by their recommendation, and that took care of the problem with that. But http://www.createhosting.co.nz/support/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=4 now I can't get any of my mail messages in Outlook Express to open. Whether they have been previously opened or not. I am running Windows XP and I could do a system restore but will it go back before the updates so I'll have to download them again? When I try to open the messages I get a error that says "there was an error opening this message". I've also seen https://forums.techguy.org/threads/cannot-open-mail-in-outlook-express.459082/ one saying something about an address book error. And in fact when you click on the address book, it will say it can't be found. When I browsed your archive it told of doing a search for the address book. When I do I find several files but, none of them show anything in them and it only creates a shortcut for them. Is it possible to use the WIndows XP disc to do a repair and get what I need to get over this problem? I'm a little hesitant to use the disc because I'm afraid I'll lose some files in the process. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanx. P.S. I do have another mail program called Mozilla Thunderbird which seems unaffected by this problem. It is only with O.E. And I also have done a thorough virus scan and have checked my Zone Alarm for any restrictions and none are found. I'm sure its a corrupt file but, I don't know just how to go about fixing it. toni1595, Apr 14, 2006 #1 Sponsor toni1595 Thread Starter Joined: Aug 19, 2005 Messages: 28 Where I haven't had any replies on this thread, I thought I'd give some people a head's up in case it happens to anyone else. to outlook 0 11 Years Ago good day, i upgraded a pc from virus 98 to xp pro and i'm stuck with a freaking outlook express that doesn't work. if you open it, it says computer is out of memory or disk is full. the error number (i'm assuming it's the https://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/microsoft-windows/threads/26356/error-when-opening-outlook-express-address-book-and-importing-messages-to-outlook error number) is "0x80012ce, 3". after that, it says that outlook express can't start because msoe.dll could http://www.ctimls.com/support/kb/how%20to/repair_outlook_express.htm not be initialized. i've gone through the web and the only advice i could find was that the .dbx files are read only, but that didn't help. they were on archive, however, the outlook express folder they're in is read only and can't be changed. i've removed outlook express from "add remove windows components" and then reinstalled it, but that didn't help. can't find a download for a outlook express newer version of internet explorer. i tried importing the messages on my pc and they all come in. i've installed outlook 2000 on that pc and tried to import it, but it comes up with this message: "unable to open outlook express message store". and trying to open ingrid.wab i get: "appears to be corrupt and cannot be used". i don't know what to do anymore. i've spent hours on this and all i can think of is let her use outlook or install opening outlook express thunderbird. thanks for any help you guys can give. i'm off to browse the java forum... windows-nt-2000-xp Easter Bunny 57 posts since Jun 2005 Community Member 2Contributors 5Replies 6Views 11 YearsDiscussion Span 11 Years Ago Last Post by wharden 0 Discussion Starter Easter Bunny 11 Years Ago nevermind, got it sorted, but couldn't get the addresses. lady not too upset about it. she did slap me around and kick me when i fell on the ground, but she said it was ok. :) 0 wharden 11 Years Ago How did you get around this? 0 Discussion Starter Easter Bunny 11 Years Ago outlook or outlook express? for outlook express i gave up and installed outlook. if it's not the latest version, then you can fix the msoe.dll problem by installing the latest version of internet explorer. for the outlook problem: the message store it's moaning about, is like a storage place on the internet somewhere(that's how i understand it). if you go to "tools" -> "email accounts" -> "add a new directory or address book" -> "additional address books". pick whichever one grabs you. don't think there's much of a difference between outlook- and personal address book. think i took outlook address book. then you can go do that again and this time select "view or change existing directories or address books" and remove the internet directory. not sure what they call it. i'll go look for the website i found the tips on. hope i helped. ;) 0 Discussion Starte

Compact all Folders in Outlook Express: On the File Menu click Work Offline In the Folder List, click on Outlook Express (to ensure that no e-mail or news folder are open) Close the Folder List by clicking the X in the upper right-hand corner of the list pane.
