I have Outlook Express 6.0. I can recieve messages ok, but I cannot compose, reply or forward them. When I hit the "Create Mail" button I get the message: "There was an error https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/314424 opening this message. An error has occurred." Bummer. Also when I go into the tools menu, click on address book, I get the message: "Unable to open the address book. The address book may not be installed correctly." XP won't let me delete Outlook Express. I thought of doing that and just starting over. Any help would be appreciated. 2 4/16/2002 (12:47 am) by John Edward Renfro Jr. John Edward http://www.geek.com/forums/topic/cannot-send-messages-in-outlook-express-on-xp/ Renfro J... Assuming you bought XP. 3 5/26/2004 (4:27 pm) by Lawrence M Ruane Lawrence M Ruane (1 Posts) I just had this problem also; in Outlook Express, when I hit Create Mail, Reply, Reply All, or Forward, or double-click on any message header, a pop-up appeared: "There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred." Also, when I attempted to open the address book, I got this pop-up: "Unable to open the Address Book. The Address Book may not be installed properly." I had just upgraded (preserving existing files and applications) from Windows 98 to XP Home Edition. All my email messages from before the upgrade were present and seemed correct, and I could see them in the lower half of the window. New email was being received successfully. I called Microsoft support (425-635-3311 for North American telephone support for Windows XP; the person I spoke to was very helpful and competent -- and patient!), and I ended up having to reinstall Internet Explorer (which includes Outlook Express; you can't reinstall just OE). The hardest part was first uninstalling the existing IE; the sup

Any help please alssla slaals, Jul 24, 2009 #1 Sponsor throoper Trusted Advisor Joined: Jan 20, 2007 Messages: 5,166 Hi slaals and welcome to outlook express 6.0 TSG, Open the folder where your WAB file is stored. It should be at C:\Documents and Settings\{your user name}\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book. Rename the username.wab (Address Book File) to username.old (username being the name you log into Windows with). Rename the username.wab~ (WAB~FILE) to username.wab and try OE again. Hopefully that will restore your address book. With luck that may also take care of the sending issue, but that may be a separate problem. T. throoper, Jul 24, 2009 #2 slaals Thread Starter Joined: Jul 24, 2009 Messages: 8 That did not work either. It says that it can not be found. What else can I do? slaals, Jul 28, 2009 #3 throoper Trusted Advisor Joined: Jan 20, 2007 Messages: 5,166 Click Start>Run>type wab /a(space between b and /)>OK. Does the address book open? If not, go back and rename the username.wab to username(1).old (you should now have a username.old and a username(1).old). If another username.wab~ has been created since you were in the folder last, delete it. Open OE and see if a new address book file gets created and allows you access. What version of IE do you have and do
