Forums Forums Software Windows Today's Posts Outlook Express 6 Export MAPIerror Bydexterdoo Aug 4, 2004 When I try to Export messages, I'm getting "an error occurred while initializing MAPI" ??? This happens with a "clean" install http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_programs/the-export-could-not-be-performed-an-error/d351a761-84df-4f0d-b605-0650e3c0a775 and with Outlook configured as POP, "not" MAPI ! Already checked MS Knowledge Base and it was of no help! Aug 4, 2004 #1 Goalie TS Booster Posts: 616 First of all.. MAPI is used typically for Exchange based features. It can be used for other features, particularly something like exporting to a PST file. Is this Outlook or Outlook Express? BIG difference. Just checking, I know you said OE... http://www.winbookcorp.com/_technote/WBTA05000872.htm is http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/outlook-express-6-export-mapi-error.14594/ for OE 4.. I don't know if the same applies to 6. (Appears not to) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q179637 Indicates for OE up to 5.5.. However, it may still work for 6. (Appears not to) See also http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...c3ae0c%24cd529d90%24a301280a%40phx.gbl&rnum=9 This indicates that Export isn't what you want, but backup the data instead. Provides several good links. Edit: More info, spelling correction Aug 4, 2004 #2 Goalie TS Booster Posts: 616 To Clarify: Outlook Express 6's export function is meant only to export messages directly to Outlook 2000+ or Exchange.. To go to other programs, you should backup your data and then import from the backup. Aug 4, 2004 #3 dexterdoo TS Rookie Topic Starter Posts: 21 Thanks Goalie ! I've got a backup program that works fine, I just thought that something was wrong since the Import/Export wasn't working ..... Aug 4, 2004 #4 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) Which explains the problem is that "When importing or exporting messages, this error can occur if you configure Outlook Express to be the default Simple Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) client." And then to "Remove the setting that sets Outlook Express as the default MAPI client." If I do this, what is the outlook express to down side. Ape Zoron 23 August 2003 01:50:35 Use Set Program Access and Defaults in the Add / Remove programs, or you can go into the Internet Options and specify a different default email client there. An error occurred while initializing MAPI. anybody knows the solution to the my problem? Back to top #2 Lavigne087 Posted 29 March 2016 - 02:13 PM Lavigne087 Stranger Members 1 posts This behavior may occur if either of the following conditions is true: • You import mail from Outlook into Outlook Express, but you removed Outlook from your computer before you tried to import the mail into Outlook Express. • You configure Outlook Express to be the default Simple Messaging application programming interface (MAPI) client. • You import or export mail from Outlook Express, and you do not have Outlook installed on your computer. To resolve this issue, try one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation. Method 1: If you want to use a special program you can use Outlook Express Fix Toolbox https://www.fixtoolb...expressfix.html Method 2: Change your MAPI Settings Configure Outlook Express to not be the default Simple MAPI client before you import the mail items. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Restart your computer, and then start Outlook Express. 2. On the Tools menu, click Options. 3. On the Connection tab, click Change to open the Internet Properties dialog box. 4. On the Programs tab, click an e-mail application other than Outlook Express in the E-mail list. Click Apply, and then click OK. 5. Click OK again to close the Options dialog box.
