My system has just recently started doing that. what settings control this & where are they? I prefer to start it manually at a convenient time. 2-- Also, when it is compacting, I keep getting an error message that it can't finish outlook express compacing because another program is using the file. I'm not aware of any other prog doing that. How can I fix that so it will finish compacting. Thanks for all suggestions. Is the file that the compacting process cannot finish, the Folders.dbx file? Do you store the majority outlook express compact of your messages in the Inbox? Do you have Service Pack 2 installed?
