When i first try to open an email it complains that it can't find a .pst file???? Which has nothing to do with OE and after this on every attempt to outlook express error open an email or address book it says "there was an error opening this message". Tried to create a new identity but as soon as I do this OE shuts down and won't open until reboot. Can still receive emails. Tried XP repair but when finished it wanted to activate windows before letting me login which I clicked OK to however all I get is a blank desktop background. So went back and reloaded backup image which I created before started repairs and ran sfc /scannow which did not solve the problem. I am trying to avoid a complete reinstall. Any ideas please? Hi crew, In Outlook Express 6, when replying to a message or when clicking "Create Mail" I get the following error message: "There was an error opening this message. An Error has occurred." The "new mail" window doesn't open at this time. However, if I wait around 5 minutes the window will eventualy open. I dont think it has anything to do with the security updates that I have been reading about causing this error. No one else on the network is seeming to have the issue. I tried clearing the cache and deleted Folders.dbx and Inbox.dbx. Nothing has fixed this issue yet. Any suggestions are welcome. Try compacting all OE folders (http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact) and deleting Temporary Internet Files (accepting the option to delete all offline content). General OE Caveats: - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm. - WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place. - WinXP SP2 only: If your machine is fully up-to-date at Windows Update, installing the following patch (KB918766) will help to avoid such data loss in
