I'm just trying to build a new system, but need to export my e-mail before I take down this current system. I just used the "export" feature in outlook express Outlook Express, chose "messages" and instead of working the application gives me an error message in a tiny window that says "an error occurred while initializing MAPI"..... Anyone know how to slap the MAPI back in line? lol I REALLY need my e-mails to go over to my next computer, as alot of the e-mails are business related. Thanks in advance for any and all help, I appreciate your time in outlook express to trying to help me. In this case, follow these directions as a substitute for the "Change your MAPI Settings" directions in the article. - Go to the Internet Options control panel and select the Programs tab - Select any program other than Outlook Express from the dropdown menu for E-mail - Click OK You may have to restart your machine first

This happens with a "clean" install and with Outlook configured as POP, "not" MAPI ! Already checked MS Knowledge Base and it was of no help! Aug 4, 2004 #1 Goalie TS Booster Posts: 616 First of all.. MAPI is used typically for Exchange based features. It can be used for other features, particularly something like exporting to a PST file. Is this Outlook or Outlook Express? BIG difference. Just checking, I know you said OE... http://www.winbookcorp.com/_technote/WBTA05000872.htm is for OE 4.. I don't know if the same applies to 6. (Appears not to) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q179637 Indicates for OE up to 5.5.. However, it may still work for 6. (Appears not to) See also http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...c3ae0c%24cd529d90%24a301280a%40phx.gbl&rnum=9 This indicates that Export isn't what you want, but backup the data instead. Provides several good links. Edit: More info, spelling correction Aug 4, 2004 #2 Goalie TS Booster Posts: 616 To Clarify: Outlook Express 6's export function is meant only to export messages directly to Outlook 2000+ or Exchange.. To go to other programs, you should backup your data and then import from the backup. Aug 4, 2004 #3 dexterdoo TS Rookie Topic Starter Posts: 21 Thanks Goalie ! I've got a backup program that works fine, I just thought that something was wrong since the Import/Export wasn't working ..... Aug 4, 2004 #4 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.)
