This function can be used for defining your own way of handling errors during runtime, for example in applications in which you need to do cleanup of data/files when a critical error happens, or when you need to trigger an error under certain conditions (using trigger_error()). It is important to remember that the standard PHP error handler is completely bypassed for the error types specified by error_types u

PHP up vote 1 down vote favorite I've never worked with advanced error handling, and I can't find an obvious answer searching. In the scope a script php error (require_once) how do you set up a custom "die" message? Generally my users see the page-load die with no response. I'd like to direct them to a help file regarding memory so they absolutely cannot miss the solution. php die share|improve this question asked May 19 '13 at 5:55 Orangeman555 43111130 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote You can kill a script and output a message using the die() command die("Your message php error handling here"); You can also throw custom exceptions in PHP 5+, and catch them and at that point output a message to the users. http://php.net/manual/en/language.exceptions.php share|improve this answer answered May 19 '13 at 5:59 Chris Hendry 7141727 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote require_once automatically stops execution if it fails. Saiful Islam 88441626 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 23 down vote accepted Simple Answer: You can't. See the manual: The following error types cannot be handled with a user defined function: E_ERROR, E_PARSE, E_CORE_ERROR, E_CORE_WARNING, E_COMPILE_ERROR, E_COMPILE_WARNING, and most of E_STRICT raised in the file where set_error_handler() is called. For every other error, you can use set_error_handler() EDIT: Since it seems, that there are some discussions on this topic, with regards to using register_shutdown_function, we should take a look at the definition of handling: To me, handling an error means catching the error and reacting in a way that is "nice" for the user and the underlying data (databases, files, web services, etc.). Using register_shutdown_function you cannot handle an error from within the code where it was called, meaning the code would still stop working at the point where the error occurs. You can, however, present the user with an error message instead of a white page, but you cannot, for example, roll back anything that your code did prior to failing. share|improve this answer edited Sep 30 '11 at 20:58 answered Dec 14 '09 at 10:59 Dan Soap 7,38711943 3 Actually y
