Proposal Proposal for "Amendment of Docblock Comment Standards" Main Comments Votes » Metadata » Status Category: RFC Proposer: Alexey Borzov License: BSD Style Status: Proposed » Description Amendment of Docblock Comment Standards The Issue Current coding standards for https://pear.php.net/pepr/pepr-proposal-show.php?id=580 docblock comments are described on the Sample File (including Docblock Comment standards) page of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/561066/fatal-error-allowed-memory-size-of-134217728-bytes-exhausted-codeigniter-xml the PEAR manual. The page in question contains a huge example file and the following phrase Please take note of the vertical and horizontal spacing. They are part of the standard. Literal application of that phrase in PHP_CodeSniffer, which is now the defacto standard for checking CS compliance, leads to it producing errors like error 36 php error @category tag comment indented incorrectly. Expected 1 spaces but found 3. error 221 Line indented incorrectly; expected at least 4 spaces, found 3 error 295 Expected 1 space after the longest type error 296 Expected 1 space before variable type . . See the results of PHP_CodeSniffer automated runs for more examples such as these. See the Examples section below for the code triggering such errors. That part of the standards php error 580 does not serve a useful purpose, since readability of the comments is not reduced by putting more spaces between phpdoc tag and its description. It is also extremely difficult to find more serious coding standards violations in a huge list of such errors. Proposal Whitespace issues Replace the phrase Please take note of the vertical and horizontal spacing. They are part of the standard. by the following The example below shows recommended vertical and horizontal spacing. When writing phpdoc tags additional spaces can be inserted between the tag name and description so that the descriptions line up in a block. Empty lines may be inserted between groups of phpdoc tags to promote readability. PHP5 updates The standards should also be updated to reflect changes in PHP5, since they are now mandating @access tags for all methods and requiring @static tags for static methods. These are obviously redundant in PHP5. Other changes @return tags are mandatory in the current standards, without exceptions. This essentially means having explicit '@return void' tags for methods that do not return anything (e.g. setFoo()) and having '@return ClassName' for constructors. @return tags should be optional for such methods, phpDocumentor will add 'void' and 'ClassName' as return values for them anyway. @param tags are now require

The client POS is based on PHPPOS, and I have implemented a module that uses the standard XML-RPC library to send sales data to the service. The server system is built on CodeIgniter, and uses the XML-RPC and XML-RPCS libraries for the webservice component. Whenever I send a lot of sales data (as little as 50 rows from the sales table, and individual rows from sales_items pertaining to each item within the sale) I get the following error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 54 bytes) 128M is the default value in php.ini, but I assume that is a huge number to break. In fact, I have even tried setting this value to 1024M, and all it does is take a longer time to error out. As for steps I've taken, I've tried disabling all processing on the server-side, and have rigged it to return a canned response regardless of the input. However, I believe the problem lies in the actual sending of the data. I've even tried disabling the maximum script execution time for PHP, and it still errors out. And at which stage... client sending, server receiving, server processing, se
