Php Error Handling
it only takes a minute: Sign up How to display php errors in a more readable format up vote 12 down vote favorite I've recently switched from WAMP/XAMPP to LAMP and one thing I found useful was the clean, formatted php error log error reporting. On my current server it just displays errors as plain text, and it can be hard to read through using a web browser (and not viewing source). So is there any way to display errors similarly to WAMP, like in an HTML table with styling? php error-handling share|improve this question asked Feb 20 '12 at 23:13 jreed121 92922446 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 23 down vote accepted It's a PHP setting, not set_error_handler specific to any *AMP platform, set in php.ini: html_errors = 1 relevant docs: http://www.php.net/manual/en/errorfunc.configuration.php#ini.html-errors share|improve this answer answered Feb 20 '12 at 23:19 Marc B 274k24234352 3 u can also install xdebug to have coloring and more control over the format of your debug output. xdebug.org –Basti Feb 20 '12 at 23:22 I have xdebug installed, but my errors aren't formated. –jreed121 Feb 21 '12 at 16:38 This question/answer is heavily underrated. –Laurent Nov 3 '14 at 20:10 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. Optimizing Google Analytics Performance » Advanced PHP Error Handling via PHP In my previous articles https://perishablepress.com/advanced-php-error-handling-via-php/ on PHP error handling, I explain the process whereby PHP error handling may be achieved using htaccess. Handling (logging, reporting) PHP errors via htaccess requires the following: Access/editing http://www.phoca.cz/documents/16-joomla/336-how-to-enable-displaying-php-errors-on-site privileges for htaccess files A server running PHP via Apache, not CGI (e.g., phpSuExec)1 Ability to edit/change permissions for files on your server If you are having trouble php error handling PHP errors using htaccess, these three items are the first things to check. If it turns out that you are unable to use htaccess to work with PHP errors, don’t despair -- this article explains how to achieve the same goals using local php.ini files. To implement this strategy, the following is required: Ability to create/edit php error reporting a php.ini file in your public_html directory A server running PHP via CGI (e.g., phpSuExec), not Apache2 Ability to edit/change permissions for files on your server Access/editing privileges for htaccess files (not required) Assuming satisfaction of the preceding requirements, the remainder of this tutorial explains how to enable global (sitewide) PHP error handling using a custom php.ini file. After explaining the implementation process for production environments, we will explore several useful functional customizations for both production and development servers3. Excited? Great, let’s begin.. Step 1: Create a custom php.ini file in your site’s root directory Using a text editor, create a file named “php.ini” and add the following PHP directives4: ;;; php error handling for production servers display_startup_errors = off display_errors = off html_errors = off log_errors = on docref_root = 0 docref_ext = 0 error_log = /var/log/php/errors/php_error.log Here, we are disabling all public error displays and enabling private error logging in the specified file. After editing the path and file name of the error log in the last
