PHP has many levels of errors, using this function sets that level for the duration (runtime) of your script. If the optional level is not set, error_reporting() will just return the current error reporting level. Parameters level The new error_reporting level. It takes on either a bitmask, or named constants. Using named constants is strongly encouraged to ensure compatibility for future versions. As error levels are added, the

Does it do the same when you try ini_set('error_reporting',0); ? –J A May 22 '12 at 23:34 2 Define "did not worked". –deceze May 22 '12 at 23:36 put 'phpinfo();' after that and check what the error settings are under 'core' –Sp4cecat May 22 '12 at 23:38 "I placed it into my website" WHERE did you place it? What file? –Paul Dessert May 22 '12 at 23:43 "It doesn't work" doesn't explain the problem enough. You need to elaborate on your input, expected and actual outcomes, or concretise error messages. In particular if you imply you still got error messages. And no, fatal/parsing errors cannot be trapped as that command would be executed afterwards. –mario May 22 '12 at 23:45 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 38 down vote Tried this yet? error_reporting(0); @ini_set('display_errors', 0); share|improve this answer answered May 22 '12 at 23:36 belgianguy 43135 add a comment| up vote 6 down vote Does this work?

I have followed different tutorials on how to do this but I keep getting read and php error open error messages. Is there something I am missing? I have tried the following in my php.ini file: ;Error display display_startup_errors = Off display_errors = Off html_errors = Off docref_root = 0 docref_ext = 0 For some reason when I do a fileopen() call for a file which does not exist, I still get the error displayed. This is not safe for a live website, for obvious reasons. However it's a bad practice and you should catch the errors and do something with them instead of hiding via display_Errors –Royal Bg Apr 11 '13 at 12:54 I suggest running grep display_errors /path/to/php.ini to see if your line is getting overrided somewhere down the file. This is what was happening to me. –usandfriends Aug 21 '15 at 18:02 add a comment| 10 Answers 10 active oldest votes up vote 23 down vote accepted I always use something like this in a configuration file: // toggle this to change the setting define('DEBUG', true); // you want all errors to be triggered error_reporting(E_ALL); if(DEBUG == true) { // you're developing, so you want all errors to be shown display_errors(true); // logging is usually overkill during dev log_errors(false); } else { // you don't want to display errors on a prod environment display_errors(false); // you definitely wanna log any occurring log_errors(true); } This allows easy toggling between debug settings. You can improve this further by checking on which server the code is running (dev, test, acceptance, prod) and change your settings accordingly. Note that no errors will be logged if error_reporting is set to 0, as cleverly remarked by Korri. share|improve this answer edited Nov 18 '14 at 20:40 answered Apr 11 '13 at 12:59 Sherlock 5,60962363 In both cases will this affect error loggin
