Php Error Reporting Not Working
vote 679 down vote favorite 204 I have checked my PHP ini file and display errors is set and also error reporting is E_ALL. I have restarted my apache web server. I have even put these lines at the top of my script and it doesn't even catch simple parse errors. For example, I declare variables with a "$" and I don't close statements";". But all my scripts php error types show a blank page on these errors, but i want to actually see the errors in my browser output. error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set('display_errors', 1); What is left to do? php error-reporting share|improve this question edited Mar 9 at 7:16 Maninderpreet Singh 1,7111524 asked Jun 27 '09 at 19:09 Abs 13.4k68209356 3 I've yet to nail down exactly why this works sometimes and not others, but for anyone wanting to quickly toggle errors in a php script (or enable them via a $_REQUEST parameter) these two lines will work most of the time. –brandonscript Oct 28 '13 at 20:15 well you can see details of the error by enabling xdebug from php ini file. –jewelhuq Jan 13 at 10:14 add a comment| 13 Answers 13 active oldest votes up vote 1359 down vote accepted This always works for me: ini_set('display_errors', 1); ini_set('display_startup_errors', 1); error_reporting(E_ALL); However, this doesn't make PHP to show parse errors - the only way to show those errors is to modify your php.ini with this line: display_errors = on share|improve this answer edited Oct 23 '15 at 12:24 tleb 1,173721 answered Jan 29 '14 at 11:25 Fancy John 14k2915 4 why is this not the best answer? –

Usually it displays the error, but now it just gives me a 500 internal server error. Of course before, when it displayed the error, it was different servers. Now I'm on a new server (I have full root, php error reporting so if I need to configure it somewhere in the php.ini, I can.) Or perhaps its something with Apache? I've been putting up with it by just transferring the file to my other server and running it there to find the error, but that's become too tedious. Is there a way to fix this? apache php share|improve this question asked Apr 22 '10 at 1:45 Rob 2,375154890 2 That sounds like an apache problem, not a PHP problem. Apache will throw a 500 any time it has configuration issues (like bad syntax in .htaccess). Check your apache error log for an error message. –Frank Farmer Apr 22 '10 at 1:48 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 107 down vote accepted Check the error_reporting, display_errors and display_startup_errors settings in your php.ini file. They should be set to E_ALL and "On" respectively (though you should not use display_errors on a production server, so disable this and use log_errors instead if/when you deploy it). You can also change these settings (except display_startup_errors) at the very beginning of your script to set them at runtime (though you may not

You might need to set AllowOverride All in the Apache config, if you have access to that. –kapa May 25 '11 at 17:03 Check your apache error log. It'll have to exact reason why you're getting the 500 internal error. What you see in the browser is by design useless for diagnostic purposes. –Marc B May 25 '11 at 17:13 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 124 down vote accepted .htaccess: php_flag display_startup_errors on php_flag display_errors on php_flag html_errors on php_flag log_errors on php_value error_log /home/path/public_html/domain/PHP_errors.log share|improve this answer answered May 25 '11 at 16:54 silex 2,99931224 9 i added these lines to my htaccess: php_flag display_startup_errors on php_flag display_errors on php_flag html_errors on and the pages show internal server error –Ogugua Belonwu May 25 '11 at 16:58 4 When using PHP as an Apache module, you can also change the configuration settings using directives in Apache configuration files (e.g. httpd.conf) and .htaccess files. You will need "AllowOverride Options" or "AllowOverride All" privileges to do so. php.net/manual/en/configuration.changes.php –silex M
