What to do? Well, luckily there are options for both print_r() - human friendly - and var_dump() - parseable - that http://php.net/manual/en/function.error-get-last.php will let you convert an object into a string. Use print_r() Using print_r() is the easiest, since the second parameter to the function says that we want to send the output to a variable rather than echoing it. Thus, to write to the error_log you just need to use the following code. $object = new MyObject(); error_log( https://www.justinsilver.com/technology/writing-to-the-php-error_log-with-var_dump-and-print_r/ print_r( $object, true ) ); Use var_dump() If you want the more detailed output of var_dump(), it's a bit trickier, but still pretty easy. In a nutshell, since you can only echo the results you have to capture the output buffer with ob_start(), assign it to a variable, and then clean the buffer with ob_end_clean() allowing you to write the resulting variable to the error_log. function var_error_log( $object=null ){ ob_start(); // start buffer capture var_dump( $object ); // dump the values $contents = ob_get_contents(); // put the buffer into a variable ob_end_clean(); // end capture error_log( $contents ); // log contents of the result of var_dump( $object ) } $object = new MyObject(); var_error_log( $object ); Writing to the PHP error_log with var_dump & print_r was last modified April 19th, 2016 by Justin Silver Tags: error logerror_logloggingobjectsphpprint_r()var_log() You may also like... [4] php error log => Array ( [id] => 100039235 [start] => 11:00 [end] => 19:00 [punches] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [id] => 6319 [comment] => Is this expected? Are there other ways or workarounds to get more of the array logged out? php share|improve this question edited Sep 2 '14 at 10:39 h2ooooooo 25.2k53269 asked Sep 2 '14 at 10:30 Cotten 2,92163165 2 Can you provide an example? Are you sure it's not being limited by error_log()? –Robbie Averill Sep 2 '14 at 10:33 Probably a limitation of logger. Why not print the array at the interesting stuff? –Anthony Sep 2 '14 at 10:35 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote accepted If you check the error INI options in PHP you'll notice there's a log_errors_max_len option: Set the maximum length of log_errors in bytes. In error_log information about the source is added. The default is 1024 and 0 allows to not apply any maximum length at all. This length is applied to logged errors, displayed errors and also to $
