pen drive detection. When ever I insert my (4GB my flash) pen drive into my PC and any other PC I am unable to open it. The message that am prompted with is “insert disk into https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-m2Gi8RnLE drive” I started to search the solution, finally i got it in the net. As it’s clear from the message in quotes, this problems occur when you insert when your removable drive to your USB port, it detects your removable drive but throws an error window saying – Please Insert a Disk into Drive \ Device when you try to open it. One of the most possible cause of this issue when you have http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/please-insert-a-disk-into-drive-error-in-windows a removable drive which try to get a drive letter which is already reserved. This could happen due to the default behavior of Windows XP when you may have e: drive assigned to a network drive or other hardware drive and removable pen drives tries to occupy e: drive as drive letter. Fix: In order to resolve the issue, use the following methods given below: Method 1: Insert the removable disk in the removable drive before you start your computer. But in this case, make sure that the first boot device in BIOS is not USB drive, else computer may not boot at all. Method 2: 1. Log in as Administrator account in windows or any other account with administrative privileges 2. Insert your removable disk into the USB port. 3. Click Start, now right click on my computer and select manage 4. Now, click Disk Management 5. Right click on your removable drive partition and select Change Drive Letter and Paths under Disk Management ( you can find your drive easily through size ) 6. Change the drive letter some other drive letter like X: or Z: which is not reserved by some other drive on windows. 7. That’s it! Done. example, ever pop in a disc into your CD/DVD drive and then when trying to open files, you get slammed with the following error: Please Insert a Disk into Drive X Well hello, there is a disk in drive X! Unfortunately, Windows is not able to recognize the http://thebackroomtech.com/2010/09/03/fix-please-insert-a-disk-into-drive-in-windows/ device or media. You can also get this error if you connect other hardware, like a http://www.ghacks.net/2010/11/02/troubleshoot-please-insert-a-disk-into-drive-error-in-windows/ USB stick and then try to open it. There are several reasons why Windows does not detect media when it is inserted properly and I’ll try to go through all the various methods of fixing this problem. Method 1 – USB Drive If you’re having this problem with a USB flash drive, the problem is most likely the current file system format. For some reason or other, the please insert file format on the USB drive is not being recognized by Windows as a valid file system (FAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc). If you don’t care about the data on the USB stick, then the easiest thing to do is to simply format the entire drive and then re-connect it to the computer. You can format a USB drive by going to My Computer, right-clicking on the USB drive letter and choosing Format. The default setting is to format a removable device in FAT32 file format, please insert a which is usually fine. I would only choose NTFS if you really know what you are doing and have specific reasons for formatting the flash drive in that file system format. If you must recover the data from your USB flash drive, then you will first have to use a third party program to try and get the data off the flash drive, then format it. You can try the following free programs to recover data from a USB flash drive: http://www.transcendusa.com/Products/online_recovery_2.asp?LangNo=0 http://www.thepickapp.com/file_reconstructor.html http://www.piriform.com/recuva Lastly, you can sometimes get this error if the drive letter is already reserved by some other device connected to the computer. In that case, you have to change the drive letter for the USB drive. This is especially true if you have a card reader that has 4 or 5 slots on it. Each slot gets it’s own drive letter, so it’s best to change them all to something at the end of the alphabet like W, X, Y, and Z. Check out my previous post on how to change the drive letter for a USB drive in Windows. Method 2 – CD/DVD Disc You can also receive the “Please insert a disc into drive X” error when using CDs and DVDs. The problem can be caused by other the CD/DVD media, the CD/DVD ROM drivers, or the actual CD/DVD drive hardware. Here’s a couple of things to try: 1. Check Media Format – Firstly, make sure the media you are trying to use actually is suppor
By Martin Brinkmann on November 2, 2010 in Windows - Last Update:March 4, 2014 26Tony, a new user of the Ghacks forum asked for help regarding a issue with his removable hard disk and Windows 7.While the disk was showing up in the operating system, a click on it to access it in Windows Explorer yielded the error message "Insert Disk, Please Insert A Disk Into Drive" followed by the assigned device letter of the drive. It is a confusing error message, considering that the device is a hard drive, and not a drive where a disk can be inserted. There are however a few things that users can do to troubleshoot the issue.Drive Letter ConflictA drive letter conflict occurs if the disk that is affected by the error is mapped to a reserved drive letter. That's probably the easiest to resolve, as it can be resolved by changing the drive letter of the affected drive.Type computer management in the start search box and hit Enter. You can alternatively click on the Start Menu orb, then Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Please note that the path is valid for Windows 7, and may differ for other operating systems.Click Disk Management.Right-click the partition, logical drive, or volume that you want to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.Click the removable drive, click Change, click the drive letter that you want to use, and then click OK. Make sure you map a drive letter that is not in use, preferably x,y,z. If that works you can still change it to another drive letter easily. You may also want to try plugging it into another free port if available.SoftwareTranscend JetFlash Online Recovery is a free software program to fix the insert a disk into drive error in Windows. Please note that this drive has been designed for Trascend removable drives. It appears to be working with other drives as well, but there is no guarantee for that. Before you use the software, try finding a comparable software from your device manufacturer. Many happen to have recovery software for this problem available. You may also want to consider contacting the manufacturer's support first.Visit the site and download the RecoverISP tool. Please note that you need to supply an email address before you can download the software. The program is compatible with all Microsoft operating systems from Windows 2000 to Windows 7. The page language is not in English, but that should not be a problem.Once downloaded plug the removable drive in the computer and start RecoverISP. It is a portable tool that requires no installation. The
