Here's some info that might help: IMPORTANT! You MUST use a secondary hard drive (not your main OS drive) for recording and playback of audio in Pro Tools. Recording or playback from the OS drive is known to be problematic and the cause of many different error types. If you are using your system drive and encountering errors, the first thing you should do is get a compatible drive. USB drives are not supported and are known to be problematic, so please do not use them with Pro Tools. If you're recording or playing back from a USB drive and are getting errors in Pro Tools, please switch to using a compatible external firewire drive or internal SATA/ATA/IDE drive and disconnect the USB drive. Pro Tools supports recording and playback to a secondary drive that meets the following requirements: 7200 rpm or faster 9ms seek time or faster Firewire drives must have the Oxford 911 (FW400 port), Oxford 912 (FW400 & FW800 ports) or Oxford 924 (FW800 ports) Bridge chip. And when the session starts, I stand about 85% of chance to have the following 2 outcomes. First, it halts, and show me a message box, "The audio device underflowed. If it occurs frequently, try decreasing the "H/W buffer size" of the playback engine panel or remove other devices from the audio fireware bus. What can I do for this, please? johnscott, Aug 19, 2011 #1 David Das Moderator Moderator Messages: 6,297 This is a Pro Tools error. I know you say you've isolated it to specifically using the Kontakt strings, but I can't think of any case that Kontakt could cause it. I think it's something else. Except for one remote possibility: the error mentions the audio Firewire bus. Are you using a Firewire audio interface at the same time as you're using a Firewire external d

If http://scotttroyer.com/2011/08/fix-pro-tools-audio-device-buffer-underflowed/ this occurs frequently, try decreasing the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine panel or remove other devices from the audio firewire bus. (-6085) Occasionally this error pops up in Pro Tools, usually after I return from a meal in the middle of a long recording or mixing session. The session file will only playback audio for 1 second or less and then the error message pops up. Apparently, Pro Tools 9 is a workaholic and doesn’t pro tools like taking lunch breaks, at least when running on the particular combination of MacBook Pro, Mbox 2 Pro, and Western Digital hard drive that I’m using. Following the directions to decrease the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine panel doesn’t seem to help. In fact, not only does decreasing the buffer size seems contrary to the suggested way to solve a buffer underrun, but it then sometimes throws this error message: A CPU overload occured. audio device buffer If this happens often, try increasing the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine Dialog, or removing some plug-ins. (-6101) The Fix I’ve tried a lot of things and the problem seems to be related to the hard drive and firewire ports. Here’s how I fix it. Save and Close the session. Quit Pro Tools. Eject the hard drive used for recording audio. Unplug the audio hard drive and Mbox 2 Pro (or the audio interface you’re using). Wait 10 seconds. Reconnect the audio hard drive and audio interface. Restart Pro Tools. Reopen the session and press Play. If the session plays back without stopping, then it worked. If not, then I don’t know what to tell you, which reminds me of a “Deep Thought” by Jack Handey. If you ever crawl inside an old hollow log and go to sleep, and while you're in there some guys come and seal up both ends and then put it on a truck and take it to another city, boy, I don't know what to tell you. Hopefully this solution worked for you. Let me know if you’ve had the same problem, what hardware you are running and if this solved the problem.
