level from Windows 2000 native to Windows Server 2003. After, I did this, I went into a control station which is a member of the domain and ran rendom /list command. But, I still get this error message. Before raising the domain functional level also, I got the same error message. Now, after raising it still I get the same error. What could be the problem? Error shown below. You do this under Active Directory Domains and Trusts. -- Todd J Heron, MCSE Windows Server 2003/2000/NT "John" <> wrote in message news:... >I have Raised the domain functional level from Windows 2000 native to >Windows > Server 2003. To Question - Hi Andrew, I'm having the error above when using: rendom /upload command, in step 5 of the "Step to Perform the Domain Rename Procedure" doc. Please help! Thanks, \phil. Answer - I assume this is Windows 2003? I found a reference to the error code on microsofts site here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/debug/base/syst It sounds like the parent domain is wrong. I would need more details to help you further. Hi Andrew, I'm sorry that I forgot to tell you the OS & Configuration. You're right that It's Windows server 2003. The is very simple (small network): 1 server and 2 clients. The server is functioning well with present domain name (DNS,PDC...) but I'd like to rename the Domain Name from: http://www.winvistatips.com/threads/domain-rename-error-when-you-run-rendom-list.729188/ like ... xxxxxx.org ---> xxxxxx.com and got the error above. The link you provided is indicating exactly the failure and the procedure is confusing (I'm just try to learn it). The steps I've done: 1. Download the latest Domainrename zip file from MS. 2. Boot the server up. 3. Extract them in the DomainRenam folder, on the server. 4. Follow the procedure and got error above. I used the server as Control station. I'm http://en.allexperts.com/q/Windows-Networking-1050/Error-8245-during-Domain.htm not sure that is correct because it's not clear to me. Please help me with more details if possible. Thank you very much. AnswerI have not renamed a domain personally yet. I looked over the documentation that microsoft provides and I am glad I haven't had to. I assume you have only one domain in the forest. According to the documentation you should be able to do what you tried to do. Your best bet is probably to use the server console to do all the commands. It sounds like you did that though. I am sorry I am not being much help but I haven't done that yet. It's great fun being a pioneer isn't it? I will ask around and see if anyone else has had this issue. Good luck. Promoting the Windows Server 2012 R2 server to a Domain Controller failed. I was sure I never attempted to rename the original domain… Advertisement: Assuming a domain rename operation was in progress (why?!), I ended that operation with rendom: C:\>rendom /end The operation completed successfully. After this operation, I could add my new slave domain controller.
