I started another thread recently because my computer was shutting down randomly and then eventually would just freeze in BIOS or safe mode. I replaced the hard drive which didn't solve it. I now today http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2935178/reboot-select-proper-insert-boot-media-selected-boot-device-press-key.html just finished installed a new MOBO and CPU and am getting this unrelenting error:"Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press a key."I've gone through ever thread on the topic I reboot and could find. The ones involving diskpart don't help me, I tried, and my drives aren't partitioned anyway. I tried rearranging boot priority. I ran Windows start-up repair 5 times. I would normally assume I installed a wire wrong or something but it recognizes both of my hard drives as well as my DVD drive. If I put my Windows installation disk in I can get to that no problem. I considered reinstalling Windows but I don't see how that would reboot and select help as this isn't a Windows problem. I have no idea what to do, I just want this computer nightmare to end. If you can't boot directly to the OS drive and windows repair doesn't work either, a complete reformat and re installation of the OS (and the boot sector) may be in order. If you have another rig, you could test it in that, and if it doesn't work, temporarily install the OS drive in the working rig (but don't boot to it) and save all your important files before formatting. insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"> "Reboot and select proper or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" Tags: Laptops Asus Boot Devices SSD Last response: January 18, 2016 4:03 PM in Laptop Tech Support Share Woofsta January 12, 2016 1:45:45 AM Hello everyone, Just recently my Asus laptop started presenting the "Reboot and select proper or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" problem which I cannot boot up into windows anymore. I've followed some advice of seeing if my ssd is the boot option and trying to restore defaults, yet nothing works. I have an Asus UX31E with a Sandisk SSD and no modifications done to this laptop. In my Bios, the SSD is still recognized although that is the only boot option i have, since there are no CD drives or anything else. Is there a way to correct this problem or is my SSD fried? Thanks in Advance More about : reboot select proper insert boot media selected boot device press key garrett1986 January 12, 2016 2:11:56 AM could be couple things. simplest way to check is to try a different SSD/HDD to troubleshoot. A: your windows installation/boot loader/partition table got corrupted somehow (reinstall windows) B: your SSD is failing and corrupting your windows installation/boot loader/partition table (can test by reinstalling windows and doing a couple of large file transfers and using SSD Life to check that status of your SSD) C: bad ram can cause this too (if it has multiple sticks of ram, try one at a time with all the others removed to test) D: unlikely but possibly your motherboard (specifically the SB) could be failing and is not correctly interfacing with your SSD E: SSD got knocked loose possibly (try re-seating it) m 0 l Woofsta January 12, 2016 2:40:33 AM Hi Garrett, sadly I cannot test the ram, since the ram itself is soldered into my laptop which i cannot remove. I will try to look into seeing if my SSD is knocked loose. As for your solutions from reinstalling windows, I did not create a backup windows copy anywhere so I am not sure how I can reinstall. Is there a place where I can download windows 7 onto a USB drive? If you can kindly
