Can someone correct the error in my code? And explain me why it isnt giving me the required output? mysql resource id 2 php share|improve this question asked Mar 17 '12 at 22:26 Kishor 1,25221019 1 If you're just getting into programming, you shouldn't learn the mysql_* functions. Learn PDO or mysqli instead. –Maerlyn Mar 18 '12 at 13:10 I had this but it was because I had an old print_r($my->adapter) in my code. I commented it out. –johnny Nov 17 '15 at 18:55 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted This is not an error. This is similar to when you try to print an array without specifying an index, and only the string "Array" is printed. You can access the actual data contained within that resources (which you can think of as a collection of data) using functions like mysql_fetch_array(). In fact, if there were an error here, the value of $id would not be a resource. I usually use the is_resource() function to verify that everything is alright before using variables which are supposed to contain a resource. I guess what you intend to do is this: $result = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM users WHERE firstname='$submittedfirstname' AND lastname='$submittedlastname' AND email='$submittedemail'") or die(mysql_error()); if(is_resource($result) and mysql_num_rows($result)>0){ $row = mysql_fetch_array($result); echo $row["id"]; } share|improve this answer edited Mar 17 '12 at 22:41 answered Mar 17 '12 at 22:31 Kaustubh Karkare 85051

If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question. 2 user605505, it took me about three months to learn that #9 was not code for which error occurred. It's a lack of a usable result from your query. And surprisingly so few places tell you this! Just thought I'd point that out. –Bryan Apr 2 '11 at 15:17 what is confirm_query? I am not familiar with it, and didnt find anything when i searched PHP manual –jon_darkstar Apr 2 '11 at 15:38 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted '$availability` prints as 'resource id#9' because it is a resource. http://php.net/manual/en/language.types.resource.php There is nothing wrong with this, it is expected. mysql_query returns resource types when the query executes successful, and false when it fails. You can call mysql_fetch_*($resource) on that resource to get data from it. Here is an example, notice how the id is prefixed with "@+id/" then the name of the resource. Let me know if this does not help. We may need to see the logcat dump to get a better understanding of where the error is occuring.
