SOLUTION: If you receive an error message during scanning, make sure that the scanner is properly connected and turned on, then determine whether the problem occurs with all scanning software or only http://nuance.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20/~/difficulty-communicating-with-the-scanner-or-twain-errors with ScanSoft software. Exit all applications, shut down your computer properly, then restart Windows. Use your scanner with a non-ScanSoft scanning application. If you still experience scanner errors, please contact your scanner's manufacturer for support. If you only have scanning errors when you are attempting to use a ScanSoft product, use the following procedure to display the scanner’s TWAIN driver software before a scan. Close the ScanSoft product and exit all running applications. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Select the Scan Manager to display a list of scanners that the ScanSoft product recognizes. This list usually contains only one or two scanners. Right-click your scanner and select Properties to display a multi-tabbed Properties dialog box. Click the TWAIN Scanner Settings tab. Set the property Show TWAIN Settings Before Scan to Yes. Close the Scan Manager and the Windows Control Panel. Open the ScanSoft product and attempt another scan. This time, the scanner's TWAIN driver will load and enable you to change its internal settings before scanning. If you still get errors, go back into the Scan Manager and check the property for the Current TWAIN Data Source. If other TWAIN data sources app

Monday, November 16, 2009 8:18 PM Reply | Quote Answers 2 Sign in to vote The issue IS that although the Canon supplied driver for the 64 bit Windows 7 OS loads the WIA driver is scanner driver error required for the scanner to operate. The WIA driver that came with the 4200F is 32 bit and will not load.Contacted Canon support and finally got them to understand the situation. The outcome is that they are sorry for the inconvience - BUT there is no 64 bit WIA available.Looks like the only solution is to purchase a new, compatable, scanner.Canon won't get the business. Thanks to all. This issue can occur by incompatible driver or damaged hardware. I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Unplug the Scanner and plug it on another machine for a test. Does it work fine on another machine? 2. Uninstall all printer drivers and Scanner drivers on the machine, and then reinstall the Scanner driver for Windows 7 64bit again. For your reference, please download the driver from the link below: Canon 4200F driver Please Note: Micr
