16, State: 1 Forum for users of Redgate's SQL Backup tool Post a reply 4 posts • Page 1 of 1 Error: 18272, Severity: 16, State: 1 by pcorujo » Mon Jul 11, 2011 7:37 pm Hi All, I have a job which backups up databases and copies them to another server. There they are restored and upgraded from 2005 to 2008. The restores succeed but i get the following error: Error: 18272, Severity: 16, State: 1 Message During restore restart, an I/O error occurred on checkpoint file 'D:\\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\\MSSQL\\Backup\\RestoreCheckpointDB8.CKP' (operating system error 1784(The supplied user https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2022254 buffer is not valid for the requested operation.)). The statement is proceeding but cannot be restarted. Ensure that a valid storage location exists for the checkpoint file. Is there a way to disregard any transaction logs during the restore? Thank you in advance, Paul pcorujo Posts: 9Joined: Tue Jan 18, 2011 5:48 pm Top by petey » Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:20 am https://forums.red-gate.com/viewtopic.php?t=13715 Was SQL Backup actually restoring any transaction logs during the restore process? It could be that SQL Server itself writes checkpoint data during the upgrade process, so that it does not need to restart from the beginning should the upgrade/restore process be interrupted. Is there anyway around the checkpoint? The restores are fine but the jobs always appears to fail so the alerts go out. pcorujo Posts: 9Joined: Tue Jan 18, 2011 5:48 pm Top by petey » Wed Jul 13, 2011 12:41 am There is a Microsoft Support article on this,http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=2022254, whose resolution is to install certain cumulative update packages.
