when and why those happen. To make these messages easier to understand, let's make an analogy: Cast of characters: Joe is your mIRC, socket error 10053 software caused connection abort an IRC client. Mary is the IRC server (as are Jane, web irc Helga and Kyoko, all of whom work at the same place (network) Mary does). The switchboard irc client operator where Mary works is the random server on a network (usually irc.network.net). In most cases in our scenario, Joe is trying to call Mary via telephone. http://forums.mirc.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/235751/Connection_Timed_Out [10049] Can't assign requested address [10049] Can't assign requested address Click here for more details... Scenario: Joe is trying to call Mary's workplace; he doesn't really care who he talks to there (Mary, Jane, Helga, Kyoko), so he just dials the main company number, which has been (temporarily) changed to 9. The solution, of course, is http://www.mirc.org/mishbox/reference/ircerr.htm to dial up Mary or (Jane, or Helga, etc.) directly. This means the IRC server is unreachable for everybody. Most probably the admins have tweaked their DNS records to point to the non-existant IP number 255.255.255.255 to detour a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. Better try a specific IRC server on that network or another network! (When they set the server IP address to be 255.255.255.255 you will get the error "Can't assign requested address". When they set it to 127.0.0.1 you will get the error "Connection refused" because you are trying to connect to yourself as the server. If they disable the address altogether (set it to nothing) you will get the error "Unable to resolve IRC server".) Is anyone else unable to connect? Is IRC down and software caused has stayed down for a while? Is there anything I can do that I have no clue about? Hope someone knows the answer to even one of these questions and will respond. ShakeZula, Jul 10, 2008 #2 Gryph trap Joined: Nov 29, 2004 Messages: 35 Likes Received: 0 Never seen that problem before, so checked google: "DNS Pool" is not an error, it just means that the named address you are connecting to maps to several different numeric (IP) addresses, any of which would connect you to the network" It would seem that that's just a notice that the server you're connecting to is a rotator. Did you get any other sort of error? Can you post the connection status log? What server are you trying to connect to? Can you tell us more about your connection (eg. is it a connection on which certain things may be filtered)? Here's verbatim what the log says on mIRC. *Connecting to irc.enterthegame.com (6667) *Unable to connect to server (Connection timed out) *Connect retry #1 irc.enterthegame.com (6667) (dns pool) *Unable to connect to server (Connection timed out) *Connect retry #2 .... And it goes on like that. XChat isn't working either. So yeah. Maybe I'm trying the wrong port? Trynant, Jul 14, 2008 #4 ShakeZula New Member Joined: Nov 9, 2005 Messages: 1,008 Likes Rece
