I have a bit of an issue with my German Vaio VGN-P29. When I first sony vaio got it about half a year ago fresh from Sony Style Store I immediately used the option to create system restore DVDs using an external DVD writer. Back then it seemed to work just fine - after a few minutes and one disc swap later I got the message that the recovery DVDs are ready. After that I went on to wipe the hard drive (only c:/ not the recovery partition) to run a clean install of the Win to factory settings 7 Beta/RC at the time. All worked fine and since then I had this version of Win7 installed and running. The other day I received the official Win7 upgrade kit from Sony (yes, I bought this Vaio P before the free update deadline but ordered another Vaio in the meanwhile so I got the update which I wanted to use for my P29). The plan was to use the recovery discs to restore the system to factory default to then to run the update as described by Sony. The problem is that, for what ever reason, the first recovery disc is not working. I tried it in multiple different DVD drives but the drive just keeps spinning and Windows doesn't recognize the disc or the content. Ok, so I thought I will use the recovery partition. So I rebooted the computer ran the system restore program (pressing F10 while booting) and initialized the C: drive recovery. But it seems I'm also out of luck here. Exactly 92% in the process an error box pops up telling me that the process can't be completed and that I need to restart. The error number is 320. I tried the Sony support page as well as Bing and Google but couln't find anything concrete on that specific error. I also tried the system restore multiple times it always stops at 92% with the same error message, tried about 10 times.
name manufacturer, your Sony VAIO can be reset to factory condition using Sony VAIO recover disks that you make or via a recovery partition on your computer's hard drive. You are responsible for making the DVDs that will help you do a factory reset of your PC, so you should do that as soon as possible after purchasing your Sony VAIO computer. The following instructions will instruct you on how to make those disks and how to use the recovery partition to backup and restore your Sony VAIO computer. Or read our other Sony computer tutorials. Why Would You Need To Recover Your Sony VAIO Computer? There are a lot of reasons why you would need to recover your Sony computer. If your computer becomes unstable and crashes frequently, if it has a bad computer virus, or if your Sony VAIO has simply become unusable. When it gets to this point, you need to revert your computer back to factory setting, which will erase everything, and return your computer to that lightning fast machine you remember and love. You can do this two ways. You can use recovery media you should have already made. Or you can use a recovery partition on the hard drive. Create Sony VAIO System Restore Media Use the following method to create your Sony VAIO recovery disks. When done, store these disks in a safe location: Go to Start>All Programs>VAIO Care. Select Recovery and restore, then Recovery. Then click Create Recovery Media. Follow the on-screen instructions to create your media. Use The Recovery Disks To Restore Your Sony VAIO To Factory Default If your computer becomes unstable, you need to use the disks you created in the step above to erase and format your computer. To perform a complete recovery perform the following steps: If you are using an external drive, power on a press F11 to enter the boot options menu. From there, select the USB drive. Otherwise, just insert the first recovery disk and reboot the computer. The recovery process will begin when the system reboots. Use the Recovery Partition To Revert Your Sony VAIO TO Factory Default While you should have a set of recovery disks for your Sony computer, you can actually use that recovery partition to restore your computer to factory condition. Power on the computer and press F10 severa
